Don't know if I've ever seen this topic discussed and I couldn't find anything in Search.  I use Spike It currently just because it's what I bought and have had luck with it.  I saw a recent video of someone that used to post here that says JJ's is best.  I have no prejudice against JJ's.  Which do you use and why?  Do you have a preference?  Ever used either of them in conjunction with Mega Strike?  Just looking for some ideas.....

From what I've heard, Spike It just dyes the outside of the bait, while JJ's is much stronger and actually dies the entirety of the plastic. I haven't used JJ's yet though so I can't tell you from first hand experience.

I use spike it because it's readily available. I don't use megastrike either, but I use Kick'n Bass with it though.

I use Spike-It to color Baits - (the Pens & The Dip Bottle) mostly to color craw claws chartreuse.

I ALWAYS use Megastrike - I don't leave the ramp without it.

I've not tried JJ's - mostly because of it's reportedly Nuclear Nature . . . Don't spill it.

This is pretty much me exactly.  I'm just curious about JJ's.  If it works, I'll give it a shot

I use JJ's to tip some of my baits, but it is too messy to use in someone's boat.

MegaStrike is THE BOMB  and I ALWAYS use it on all soft plastics.

Bought both spike it and JJ's last year. Both are effective and will dye/scent baits. JJ's in my opinion has a much higher level of "stank". I fish a lot of Zoom and Berkley Havoc plastics that are not scented from the start and both products help me get more strikes. Mega strike is in my box right now but I haven't fished it more than an hour or two as of yet so time will tell. Just keep in mind that spike it and mega strike come in different flavor a so pick accordingly.

is this even a real question. the two are leagues apart. JJ's is #1.

Love JJ's but have used Spike it successfully as well.  Both to tip my baits.  Megastrike however I use alone and with the item I use to tip the bait.

I have never tried spike-it but do have JJs and it is some potent stuff and have experienced instances where we were definately getting more bites because of it. Definately be careful with it. It will stain pretty much anything it touches. I would hate to spill a bottle in the boat.

I also use the spike-it markers and dip, and megastrike. Like A-Jay, I have avoided JJ's because of the handling issues I have heard about. I am clumsy and sloppy, so I don' think it's for me.

For some reason, spike it works better for me than JJ's... I think i've just committed sacrilege.

If I were to use a standalone product it would probably be JJ's. However, I'm a big fan of megastrike and have had quite of bit of seemingly added success using it. I don't use spike-it for scent. I use the spike-it markers to color craw/beaver/whatever tips because a tube of megastrike and a orange/yellow spike it marker fits in my pocket on the bow of my boat and I don't have to unlock a nuclear chamber and worry about waves spilling JJ's.

JJs user here.

Seriously it really isn't a good idea to use on small boats unless there is no wind period and your the only one there. (no one to rock it unexpectedly) Spilling the stuff literally could ruin a entire day of fishing. Depending on what or where it ended up. The stuff is very stout. It does an excellent job at what it was created to do though. My suggestion would be to dye several of your baits you think you may use prior to leaving to go fishing. I try to do this as part of my planning routine. You can always do a few more if one seems to be "the one" on shore or very carefully if the conditions are smooth on the boat. Seated at a table in the garage it seems to be a much smoother safer operation.

A good suggestion is to make sure the lid is secured always and I keep mine in a ziplock bag as well for extra protection.

I was going through some of my tackle yesterday (got new stuff to add) and was considering not carrying the JJs in my regular bag. I haven't been using it as much just because I have so much else and I haven't been having trouble getting fish without the hassle of it. Sure as i take it out I will be missing it. Decisions decisions.

JJ's 100%

I still use a Spike It marker so I can put a little orange on my swimbaits. Just a confidence thing.

I had a bottle of JJs break in my boats tackle storage 2 yrs ago and I can still smell it from time to time not to mention the mess I had to clean up. I had it in a zip lock but didn't notice the hole in the bag. Chartruce everywhere. That being said I'm a JJs fan in my boat , spike it in my friends boat. JJs needs a plastic bottle.

I just use the spike-it markers .I mainly use them to just add some kind of pattern to the worm and a chartreuse tail if the original color will allow a brighter tail .Some really  neat   patterns can be created with lighter shaded jelly worms such as blueberry , chartreuse watermelon , scumpernong ...

Just got my first 2 bottles in the mail today and dear god I cannot even put into words how stanky this stuff is. Don't do what I did and put your nose right up to it to smell.....like getting punched in the face with a fist full of garlic.

Can't wait to try it out!

Lol, my wife HATES when I bring that stuff inside (JJs), she threatens to kick me out of the house! ? I've used it a good bit, and usually it doesn't seem like I get more bites with it, but it does seem like the fish hold on to the bait longer sometimes... But I catch plenty of fish without it, too. I do like using the Spike-It pens to color the tip of my baits, but again, doesn't always seem like it makes a difference... If you are gonna use it, double bag that sucker! ?

Another vote for JJ'S, and as bluebasser stated, It's not even close.

If I'm just dying the tips I usually dye them the night before, let them dry, and them put them back In the original package. If I use the clear JJ'S i take a tear dropper and put a few drops In the bag and seal it up.

As others have said I usually do this outdoors on the table on the porch lined with newspaper and a large plastic platter to let them dry. Note" store the platter in the garage or an outbuilding.

I know this sounds like a lot of work and to some not worth the hassle but for me It's entirely worth It as I simply believe It works.

I've found that JJs is much faster to get good color saturation. It does smell strong, but its nothing compared to the Hog Tonic I use.

At what point will you juicers start using live bait?

I'm messin with ya'.   Seriously though, for those of you saying JJ's is amazing or whatever, what kind of success are we talking about?  Is it a HUGE difference between smell verses non smell lures, or is it just a noticeable difference?

One hundred percent JJ Magic. The stuff works. I sat coangler next to someone using gulp, same size, same color lure. The only difference being I dyed the tail of my fluke. I out fished him for five hours until we switched bait types when the bite died down. Two scented lures vs each other and JJs won hands down.
