Sprocket Posted December 17, 2015 Posted December 17, 2015 Garmin echoMAP CHIRP 43dv $299.99. Great maps, CHIRP, DownVu, and QuickDraw self mapping. Or Garmin STRIKER 5dv. CHIRP, GPS, and DownVu. 299.99. If GPS is not an issue, then the 553DV for $329.99, Tons of choices for your confusion! SE Kansas grass grower Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 17, 2015 Super User Posted December 17, 2015 Lowrance, Garmin, and Humminbird are discontinuing units now and will be replacing them for the 2016 model year. Lots of choices to get more features at a lower cost than MSRP. Quote
wnspain Posted December 28, 2015 Posted December 28, 2015 I purchased a Lowrance Elite 4 HDI last year and was happy with it until I realized that the shallow water images I was looking at very distorted and full of clutter. Yes, I had the unit set to shallow water mode. My son had bought the same unit and he had the same problem. After hours of research, I decided to go with a Raymarine Dragonfly unit. At only $169, I've learned to temper my expectations but it's only a downscan unit and have seen it perform it shallow water before. Will let you know when I conclude the "lake trials" which are imminent. Quote
