Super User jbsoonerfan Posted December 15, 2015 Super User Posted December 15, 2015 I love shooting guns in general but I have found that I am very fond of shooting the small caliber guns these days. So much so that I may have a bit of an infatuation with buying them. I now own 5 .22 rifles and 2 .22 pistols. I just picked up a Browning 1911 .22 over the weekend and it is a fun little gun. I also have 3 .17 HMR's. The HMR's are by far my favorite to shoot. The 17's are some shooters that's for sure. If you have never shot a .17 I recommend trying one out sometime. Fairly cost effective and very accurate rounds. They can be used on rabbits and squirrels but I like to punch paper with them. Seriously considering a semi 17 but waiting for Savage to come out with some different stock/barrel configurations. Just put a Boyd's thumb hole on my heavy barrel .17 and love it, but really don't like to buy a gun and drop another $150 on a stock if I could get it from Savage. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted December 15, 2015 Super User Posted December 15, 2015 I love plinking with rimfire cartridges, I too an fond of Savage. You can get a rifle set up like your deer rifle and they're less expensive to shoot. The mounting trigger pull etc are so similar it really improves your marksmanship. I had a 17hmr and they're a hoot. They're deadly and can take larger game at farther distance than the 22lr 1 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted December 15, 2015 Super User Posted December 15, 2015 There is nothing more fun on the shooting range than a .22 lr IMO. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted December 15, 2015 Super User Posted December 15, 2015 I to love plinking with small caliber rifles even hunting with them(see my mossberg MVP thread) I have several .22s a Winchester model 69a, glennfield 25, Marlin 15yn, Henry lever gun. Then have my Marlin 917 17hmr which is my go to gun and my truck gun that thing takes a beating been used and abused and neglected but I know anything within 200 yards on a calm day isn't safe. I've been wanting to get a 17wsm but can't justify it till I figured out I'll give the hmr to my son then get the wsm for myself and keep the hmr till he's old enough to take it himself in like 8 years lol. I like the smaller calibers in centerfire also just bought a second 204 ruger. Quote
desmobob Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 I have a pile of handguns, rifles and shotguns, but the .22LRs are my favorites to shoot, for sure! I have three .22 handguns, three .22 rifles, plus a Colt .22LR conversion kit for my Colt Sporter HBAR rifle and a .22LR Cadet conversion kit for my CZ-75 9mm pistol. I spent a few seasons shooting NRA Indoor Four-Position Small Bore competition -- .22LR shooting at its finest! But sometimes, nothing beats a relaxing day of casual plinking with the .22s. I've never tried one of the .17s. It's on my list though... Tight lines, Bob Quote

Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted December 30, 2015 Super User Posted December 30, 2015 I had a scoped Calico M100 it held 100 .22 rounds wish i never sold it fun little rifle. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted January 4, 2016 Posted January 4, 2016 I just ordered a 17HMR this weekend. I bought a Savage model 93 with scope. Really looking forward to shooting a few rounds through it. It should be here by the end of the week. I paid an additional $60 for the adjustable trigger, which may have been a mistake. Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted January 4, 2016 Super User Posted January 4, 2016 HMRs are a blast to shoot. I use mine to go after European starlings they are considered a neusance in NY hit one with the 17 and a vmax they get vaporized. gords after Halloween are fun to line up and shoot with the 17 also. kcdinkerz Posted January 9, 2016 Posted January 9, 2016 Haven't had the chance of firing a hmr yet but I love my .22s. My 10 22s don't get much love now that I bought a mp15 22 that gun is just so fun to shoot. Still waiting for them slide fire stocks get cheaper lol Quote
Super User bigbill Posted January 20, 2016 Super User Posted January 20, 2016 I just purchased some older 22cal rifles for the 5yo grandson. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 10, 2016 Super User Posted February 10, 2016 I have a ruger Mark II with 4 inch target barrell . I like firing a couple hundred rounds through it .. I go to a dump site and use it as a target range . Its a very accurate gun but has a history of jamming , that can be a pita . I'm going to get a small 22 that will fit in the back pocket , something like the Taurus pt22. That should be fun to pull out and fire a few shots . Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 19, 2016 Author Super User Posted April 19, 2016 A little update here. Added a S&W m&p 15-22 to the mix. Threw on a Bushnell AR22 scope a magpul AFG and ordered a magpul MOE adjustable stock. Also bought a suppressor in January and mailed my tax stamp info in at the same time. Waiting on that and the fun will really begin. 1 Quote
