some time ago i saw a camera that had a function in which it would record for 5 minutes (or any given time), and then overwrite them with the next 5 minutes, as if they were stored in a temporal memory. when you wanted to save them, you just pressed a button and they were transferred to the real memory. this is to avoid having hours of video of you casting without getting a fish, the camera would be always recording but not saving, until you catch a fish, then you can reel it in, weight it, release it, and then push the button and the past 5 minutes of recording would be saved.

as far as i know, gopro does not include this feature. does anybody know which cam does includes it?? it may be my Christmas present to myself....

Many drive\dash cameras are equipped this way.not sure of the models though.

What you are referring to is called "looping" and GoPro most definitely has that feature- I use it all the time. The most useful is 5 minute loops but I believe it does up to 20-30 minute loops.

Yes GoPro has that feature. As stated it's called loop recording. It helps keep your memory card cleaner. Otherwise, if you use a camera that doesn't have that, just stop it after a fish catch and start it again. Then when you go through your clips to edit them, go to the end first and see if it's one that ended in a catch and chop off the first part of it. Not as nice as the loop, but still effective.

I'm not sure I understand the desire to film yourselves fishing.  I mean, I watch fishing videos but they are for instruction.  I don't just watch random dudes catching fish.  Maybe I'm just getting old.

You can use them as notes. I'll refer back to a certain outing and see what the date was, weather, what setup i used etc. believe me, it's not to look cool, my wife thinks I'm a nerd.

Yeah..that makes sense, I reckon.  I guess my older brain just doesn't think to use all this new fangled stuff

I use them for personal reasons. When I catch that monster I like when it's on tape.

I use Sony action cam, and just throw in a large micro add (64gb). I replace the battery at times before I have to change sd.

I would like to have that feature on the action cam.

I have used it some to verify what I was doing retrieve wise when I hook up. I am also of course looking to do some instructional videos in the future too.

The best though was having a video of my PB Musky catch this fall. It is really cool to watch and see that I ever so briefly paused boat side letting the jig sink thinking something was there and then all heck breaking loose and the thing trying to Tarpon walk on me. The funniest part to me was I had forgotten about the camera until after I released the fish.

Look up Butch Brown video's, Butch is a pioneer doing self fishing video. I consider his 19.3 lb bass catch to be #1 and shows a seasoned angler get very exited.

I wonder if my Garmns will loop? I'll have to check and see.

However it m fairly convinced I can't catch fish if they are on.

Ion air pro does the same thing and I like that camera over my go pro for fishing.

My Garmin Virb has a "Loop" feature but it's kind of Funky so I don't use it.

With a big card and unlimited battery life (I plug it into one of my 12v batteries) I haven't needed it.

Plus the wrist remote control is handy enough to capture the action.

I like it.

I have 2 go pros on my boat.....yes they loop.

i usually use the footage and create still photos of the fish we catch.

although....it also caught my trolling motor leaving my boat rather abruptly.

Hey guys, i'm new to this forum and i looked around and haven't found a topic like this..but if i'm wrong please point me in the right direction.

So i was looking for a gopro alternative but with the

same FOV.

I strap my camera in a chest harness to record my fishing trips, but the field of view is small, my hands block all the view and can barely see my fishing reel or my fishing rod.

I've seen some vids in online recorded with gopro and the difference is notorious.

keep in mind that the fisheye effect doesn't bother me as long as it isn't completely round.

Hope you guys can help me out!

Cheers.

Sergio you can change the FOV on a gopro. There are different settings.

Monoprice makes an action cam that is fairly cheap, and has a pretty good FOV as well. You'd have to check the specs to be sure. It is basically a GoPro alternative.

As you can see on my main pic, I wear mine on my cap most of the time. The chest mount is ok but I like the angle from up top better with no obstruction from my hands or the reel.

Thank for replying SFL BassHunter i dont have a gopro though, i have an Eken H8 Pro and i will give a look in the Monoprice action cam. i'll try and use a head mount and see how it goes.
