So I purchased a really good Medium heavy moderate action rod. I got it for a steal and I had a couple questions. Can this Rod be used for flipping and pitching or frogging. I know that usually you want an extra fast rip for flipping cover but I wanted to know if this could work

I think some guys do like a more flex in a flipping rod. Not sure if a moderate is comparable to a parabolic though.

Flipping and Pitching - Yes

Frog - Probably not, depending on where you throw the frog.

If you throw the frog in grass, weeds and pads I would go for a heavy action.

If you throw the frog in open water you may be able to set the hook with a medium action rod although I would still suggest a heavy action rod.

Some guys and the pros like a flipping and pitching stick at least 7-feet long and longer.

You can still pitch and flip with a 6'6" medium heavy rod.

The 7-foot medium heavy rod would perform better.

How long is it. If it's long enough, I'd second what Sam said. Pitch/flip- Yes Froggin'- no

Can you use it for frogging?  Of course.

If you don't have 'better' rod, than by all means, use it.  You are going to miss some hits.  But, then, you'll miss some no matter what rod you use. Most here would prefer a faster rod, but unless/until you find yourself doing a lot of frogging and want to get a faster tipped rod, then use what you got.  I've caught frog fish in pads with a medium spinning rod...before I knew that you're not supposed to.  Sure, the hookup ratio was around 20%....but don't let the markings on your rod prevent you from trying it for lots of different things....or send you straight into the arms of the bait monkey before you develop a feeling for what YOU like/want/need

I'm saying no, and here is the reason. You have a medium heavy moderate, most rods that are moderate for flipping and pitching are heavy power and 7'9" or better made to be used with heavy braid. Also, medium heavy moderate rods for flipping and pitching are usually made technique specific medium heavy and those are usually a lot more stout than the average medium heavy, it makes it confusing that there isn't industry standards. Anyway, if it is a standard rod line MH-M and they make fast action rods in the line up, then the rod you got was designed to crank with and probably won't have the backbone for flipping and pitching. Frogging is another no, it isn't like punching when you are in close quarters and need to keep the fish pinned, frogging requires you to get the fish hooked and up coming forward in order not to lose it, a moderate action rod, especially if it isn't a heavy power, isn't going to work, maybe open water but not in slop.
