unthinkable?  switching from Daiwa to Shimano or Shimano to Daiwa?  I say why limit yourself to all that awesome fishing gear on both sides? :)  I don't have a curado I or a tatula tactical.  I do however have a Ci4+ and TWS Zillion.  Both reels are awesome, but I give the nod in that comparison to my ci4+ because of it's light weight and fits better in my hand.  Both are very good reels.

These topics come up all the time. You'll find opinions on both sides, as both are solid, well made reels. Just go with one and you'll probably be happy!

it's really I'm very comfortable with shimano and the breaking system is great for me, all the shimano lay outs are basically the same. So that's what I stick with

Thinking about doing the unthinkable. Wanna here some comparisons pros and cons.

All I have in my boat is Shimano. I had a handful of Daiwa Tatulas about a year ago and they are great reels as well. But like I said, now all I have in my boat is Shimano. I can't get away from them and anytime I buy something else, whether I like it or not, I end up selling it and buying another Shimano. But seriously, I think if you decided on a Tatula you would be very happy with the performance, it would just come down to whether you can handle the fact that you are using something other than a Shimano.

I can see that.  This was my first outing with my Tatula type R.  Eventually got it dialed in, lesson learned.

The Tactical seems a little more refined than my tatula type R's....i have not been able to fish with it yet but the only gripe i have is the top above the tws is smooth and im use to the cutouts where my thumb goes(grip)....we'll see if it makes a difference out on the water.

Have you used a tatula before?  If you like the other ones im sure you will like the tactical

That is what the dial on the side is for!  :teeth:  Actually that ain't bad.  I've gotten a new reel, set the spool tension, cast and backlashed the crap out of it because I forgot to set the brake.  They always seem to come set to minimum.  Recipe for disaster when in my hands.

I've never had this happen on mine and I absolutely love my Type R.  I've spooled it with 50lb Suffix 832.

Pesonally, I find the lower and mid range (price wise) Daiwas better than the SHimanos when it come to low profile reels.  When you go Ci4 and above, the shimanos take the lead.

Just my 2 cents.

I don't know if the sale is still up, but American Legacy Fishing has (or had) Curado's for $120.

I own every Shimano baitcaster from the Curado up (including the new I series), and I owned a Tatula Type R. I used the Tatula for about 3 months before I eventually decided to sell it. It's a decent reel for the price, but I just prefer all of my Shimano's over it, including the Curado I.

Whenever I sold my Tatula, I replaced it with a Scorpion 201, and I love it.

Do you feel any difference between the new Scorpion and Curado I? I don't need a reel right now but I was thinking about picking one up next time I need one. I know there is not much difference in the two just wondering if the Scorpion was maybe smoother or something to that extent?

Only difference I can tell is the red paint job, and the handle knob caps are anodized red as well. Otherwise, they're the same reel.

Only concern might be that I don't believe you get a warranty on a Scorpion in the US.

I set mine around 8.5 I think and it threw as far as I wanted to which was very far. No backlashes for me at that setting with 12# mono. Loved my Type R and standard Tatulas but I'm back to Shimano only for now. I always end up there but I loved my Type R and might allow another to be the exception to my Shimano rule this spring. I really like that reel.

Totally user error.  It was my first time throwing the type R (and on tournament day) and I put a little too much sauce on it before dialing it in properly.  Haven't had much of an issue since with any of my Daiwas.  I just have to be mindful switching between Shimano and Daiwas during my outing.

Been there done that!  Enjoy!
