Hey everyone,

I am looking for something like the Strike King Tour Grade Tungsten Swing Football Head. I like that you can change the hooks so

with different baits you can change accordingly. For whatever reason I can seem to find them in Ontario (Canada) where I live

and I looked at ordering them on live but with shipping I can't justify it. Is there another brand that makes something similar to

this? Don't care if it is tungsten or not but I would like it to be painted and 1/2oz.

This is what I am talking about for reference.

You can change the hooks on the Tru Tungsten Free Ball swinging jig heads as well.

Can't change the hooks, but Biffle Hardhead have been best for me, far and away.  Just get a couple different sizes.  They hang up much less than others I've tried and allow for great freedom of motion.  They aren't the cheapest, but I lose them so rarely, that they really are much cheaper than others in the long run.

I am a big fan of the Mustad and SK heads. When I first started using swinging jig heads a few years ago, I started with the ones pre-attached to a hook, I quickly moved away from those to the Mustad fastach system. Going forward, I will probably only buy the SK heads, not that the Mustads are not quality items, as they are, but for size reasons. The SK, are tungsten, and much more compact than the Mustad, which helps with getting better hook-ups.............let me explain. When I am throwing these heads, since it's a bottom contact presentation, I use then in fairly heavy sizes...1/2 oz. minimum, and usually 3/4, or 1 oz. BUT often times in our clear water a smaller profile bait is the key to getting bites....baits like the small Havoc Pit Boss, 3" chigger craws, etc......these baits perform best on a 2/0-3/0 EWG hook , when using the larger 3/4, and 1oz. Mustad heads, that's a big ol' hook in front of a small package, and I HAVE had some hook up issues with this arrangement. Much like traditional football jigs, I use a sweeping hook set with these to avoid blowing the fish's mouth open with a snap set, but still not much bite with a small hook behind a big sinker. Once I switched to the smaller profile tungsten SK, that problem all but went away. I still use the sweep set, but , for example, the 1oz SK is about the same size as the 1/2 oz Mustad, there is much much more bite for the hook to grab when using the smaller baits and hooks.

Eco Pro Tungsten has the Free Ball Jig heads. You'd have to modify them a bit to switch the hooks out since they don't come with a split ring. However, you can cut the stock hook and add a split ring and hook of your choice to them. I'm not sure what shipping on them would be, but it might be worth a look. Also, the link you sent to BPS the banner on the page states free shipping with no minimum. For orders going to Canada, there's only a $3.50 brokerage fee. That might be worth a look then too.

Have you had any issues with the wires bending on the SK heads? They look a bit flimsier than the Mustads. Last year, I discovered swing jigs, but ran into the problem of hooks being too big, especially when I wanted to run more compact presentations.

No, not yet, and I typically fish them on stout gear. Usually a 7'3" H/F rod, and 50lb braid with a 15,17,or 20lb fluorocarbon leader.

i really like the owner pivot heads.  pricey, but great.  they don't bind as much as others because of the addition of the split ring.  that said, you could always open up said split ring and change the hooks.... might be an option for you.

*** carries the Biffle Hardheads, and you can choose what size hook on most of the jig heads. Another thing to check out on *** is in their specialty weight section they have the sliding football heads. They are tungsten and a little pricy, but you slide the weight onto your line with a bobber stop, and then you can tie any hook you want onto the line (like a texas rig) and its pretty much like a swing head, but more freedom to the bait. You can choose to pin the weight down on the hook when fishing nastier cover to minimize snags, or when the water is colder to minimize the action of your bait. Or you can stop it an inch or so up the line to give it more action. I forgot the name of the maker, but its a sliding football head. Check em out.

Thanks for the suggestion, I am leaning towards the SK and Stringease. I'm not a big fan of adding a slip ring to the other ones some of you guys have mentioned. I am also leaning toward 1/2oz and 3/4oz so having a tungsten weight does help for size which was mentioned! I guess I will have to wait for the fishing show. Bass is out of season anyways so I guess i can wait to buy tackle....
