Anantha Patel Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Hey there, What are you thoughts on the most weedless lure? Soft plastics, even when rigged weedless, seem to still get hung up in the large weed beds I fish. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2015 Depends on the type of weeds but a hollow body frog is probably the most weedless bait out there. 3 Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 12, 2015 Super User Posted December 12, 2015 The most weedles lure? It ain't the lure! It's the angler! When fishing a Texas Rig or Jig-N-Craw most anglers try to force them through cover. Ya gotta finesse them through 9 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2015 And sometimes, it's the vegetation. There isn't any finessing a bait through snot grass(moss or gorilla snot). I haven't seen a bait yet that is immune to that stuff but the bass will still hit a slime covered frog because they can't see it. We get this nasty, stringy stuff here too that doesn't usually clump onto a bait, but it gets into everything. The worse is spinnerbaits or buzzbaits because it gets on the blades, wraps around the wire, and fouls the blades. The more leafy stuff is pretty easy to fish most jigs or T-rigs though with a careful feel though. 2 Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 sounds like could be a combination of using the wrong tool for the job and/or bad technique. more details needed Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted December 12, 2015 Super User Posted December 12, 2015 I fish weedy lakes all day long with a Texas rig and never have to pick weeds off. Quote

Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted December 12, 2015 Super User Posted December 12, 2015 Like Catt said its the user i can bring minus one thru tree limbs just by feel.same with plastics and jigs u gotta have that touch Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted December 12, 2015 Super User Posted December 12, 2015 The most weedless lure? Easily a t-rigged plastic worm. Especially with a older plastic formula. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted December 12, 2015 Super User Posted December 12, 2015 Mepps timber doodle Mister Twister Top Prop Weedless rat Weedless mouse Lots of weedless stuff. Don't let the weeds stop you that's where the bass hide. My PB of 10lbs was caught on a rebel BIGCLAW CRAWFISH CRANKBAIT as I ripped it out of the weeds into the channel. Infisherman explained this ripping crankbaits through the weeds on there show. Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted December 13, 2015 Super User Posted December 13, 2015 Hollow body frog.I cast it in thick lilypads and haven't lost one yet while reeling in a hawg. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 13, 2015 Super User Posted December 13, 2015 Punch rig, designed to go through the heaviest cover. Tom 1 Quote
Anantha Patel Posted December 14, 2015 Author Posted December 14, 2015 I picked up some Scum Frogs, from Southern Lure Co. Are they very weedless and effective? My area has small lakes full of massive and thick beds Hornwort, and some lily beds. The bottom has is full of sticks and rocks, and some plants. 1 Quote

Super User scaleface Posted December 14, 2015 Super User Posted December 14, 2015 The most weedless lure I have used .that can even be fished in what bluebasser calls snot grass is the old Riverside Top Gun . I have caught a whole bunch of big bass with it in a pond that was choked full of snot grass/ moss . I think the new Yum Swurm is the same thing . I still have packs of the Top Guns that I save for such situations . I use them weightless with a big heavy flipping hook to add casting weight and not bend when reeling in an 8 lb bass and several lbs of moss .The worm is flat and skims over the moss . 1 Quote
Jon G Posted December 14, 2015 Posted December 14, 2015 A frog is pretty weedless. Flukes work pretty good for me as well as long as it is not the heavy stuff. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted December 14, 2015 Super User Posted December 14, 2015 Another vote for the hollow bodied frog. 1 Quote
Super User MickD Posted December 14, 2015 Super User Posted December 14, 2015 Johnson Silver Minnow with pork rind NOT PLASTIC. With the weed guard adjusted right, you just cannot get any type of weed to get hung on it. 1 Quote

They are cheap and effective. Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote

My dad lived in Florida for most of his life and told me he had one of these tied on religiously when he did. You might also try a hollow bodied pickle bait like the Yum Money Hound to give the bass a different look than a frog. Especially if your bass mostly eat shad. Quote
