i just placed an order on Cabelas and got a code for $20 off any order $100 or more... i think its basically worthless right now, as it cant be convined with free shipping, but when theres no free shipping code, it will be useful. i used a similar code on the order i placed today, and it saved me 20 but shipping was 14, so it was basically a $6 code....

anyways, i dont plan on ordering more from Cabelas anytime soon, and the code expires on 12/24/15, so if theres someone who really needs it, i will be glad to send you the code, just send me a PM...

I can't believe all the big box retailers (cabela's, bass pro, etc) still don't offer free shipping for orders over amount of dollars. Where X is a reasonable amount, it's embarrassing.

i don't get why people think there should be free shipping....it costs to ship something.  You don't have to get off your couch and the item is delivered to your door but you want it free....

When you drive to the store do you ask for gas money too?

It's not that people expect it, but these days a lot of the big fishing stores are doing it. It's a trend right now, that's why it's different that big box stores aren't doing it. Plus it doesn't cost them close to what they charge to ship.

Shipping isn't just the cost of the actual shipping,  it is the online ordering which has to get to the shipping department, then the pickers, the boxes and then the actual shipping.  All of that takes time and money to do.

If people started spending less money at big box stores because they could get free shipping elsewhere, you might see them offer it more often. Until that happens, they have no reason to do it -- as flyfisher says, online ordering and shipping cost money; it would have to start costing those stores more to NOT offer free shipping in order for them to consider doing it.

I just spend money when I get free shipping. I don't expect, but I do like it. I do in fact understand all the shipping cost, I am currently taking a course in marketing and the current topic is logistics. We talked about the robots that now make pick working in warehouses more efficient. But I just don't care to pay for shipping. I'd prefer to get more product for my dollar. I don't think that is unreasonable for a consumer to want. Vote with your dollars. Don't buy from where there is not free shipping. Then maybe the Big Box Boys will be persuaded to offer free shipping all the time on dollar amount X.

You're going to pay for shipping one way or another.  Either you'll pay more for the product and not pay for shipping or pay less for the product and pay for shipping separately.  Shipping is a huge expense for companies.  Last year amazon spent over $6 billion on shipping and only charged their customers a little over $3 billion for shipping.

Should I tip the pizza guy when I am charged a delivery charge?

We pay for shipping whether we know it or not. It's just blended into the price, and pricing fluctuates depending on the promotions. When you see "Spend over $XX.xx and get free shipping", the cost to cover it is already built into the margin. I am also a loyal shopper and unless the deal is too good to be true, I would tend to pay whatever the trusted retailer wants than gamble on the new guy. Last time I gambled was on a trolling motor from Amazon that was too good to be true. It took 3 months to get the correct item.

Exactly. The idea that we can get something for nothing is compelling, but never real or sustainable.

Meanwhile, most every major retailer is or has been offering free shipping.... many with no minimum purchase...

if i'm not mistaken, the OP is in Mexico which is NOT part of the free shipping offers....
