Any Fly Fishermen On Here?

Being in a trout state, the few bass lakes I have access to aren't exactly what you'd consider blue ribbon fisheries. That being said, I found that the best way to get the most out of what Utah has to offer wasto take up fly fishing for trout. Any of you guys fly fish on here? I eventually want to start fly fishing for bass, if I can ever convince myself to put my conventional tackle away for a trip...

yup....i fly fish for pretty much all the species i target.  the past few seasons i have been primarily using the fly rod for smallies and specific lakes and of course, all my trout fishing.  I am gonna do more fly fishing for largemouth and try and get my first bowfin on a fly too.

I fly fish. Tie my own flies, etc. Fish mainly for bass, big perch, and whatever else that will co-operate. Mainly on ponds nowdays, but have fished for steelhead on little Salmon river and rainbows and cutthroats on rivers and small streams in Idaho. Live in Oklahoma now so fish for what is available here.

I trout fished a little bit when I lived in NJ. I currently have only an 8 weight rod and a bunch of bass bugs and flies, but it's lots of fun!

I kind of fly fish, I own 1 entry level setup for the trout streams by my house but I still suck pretty badly at it haha.

I'll admit to dabbling in the world of fly fishing a few times a season. My amateur version of it anyway.

 

It's a routine I've gone through the last several years. 

It starts with the a big mayfly hatch early summer (great Smallie action), then goes right into small topwater bugs for Fat Bluegills, (good Eatin") and then there always a few trips for shallow topwater largemouth ~ haven't done what I always hope for in that arean just yet but I'm gonna keep waving that wand around on & off til I do.

 

I am however getting the hang of pike on streamers though - just hammer handles & snot rockets so far but it's fun.  The size will come up . . .eventually.

At least that's what I keep telling myself.

I love fly fishing and enjoy it all from catching tiny native brook trout to striped bass and mahi-mahi in the salt.  From two-weight to eleven-weight rods...

 

Ironically, I haven't made a serious effort to catch largemouth on a fly! (Yet)  I'm too caught up with all this fun new bass casting gear I've been buying!

Just went fly fishing for the first time a couple of weeks ago and after landing two pretty rainbows I am hooked. Went out and bought a entry level set up and have been doing as much reading and research as I can. Went by Big hunting creek up past frederick MD today and while I didn't catch anything I did get a better idea of the creek and also saw a number of trout so thats a win in my book.

I have Grandpa's fly rod and do use it when conditions call for it.

However, it's really more of a means to an end, and I'll likely retire Grandpa's rod for something more modern and with no sentimental value.

I love chunking weighted lures, love building reels, and just generally prefer the bass setups I have. The fly rod comes out when the ultralight's lures are too heavy.

I belong to a salt fly club, but do very little of it. Just a nice bunch to hang with in the winter.

 I do  catch some bluegills on the fly around June  each year.

If you can get sunnies when they are spawning yo can catch fish all day long.  It is usually when i try and get people hooked on the sport for the first time.  they don't care about bad casts and my record is 38 fish on consecutive casts lol

I fly fish for trout up in the mountain streams and lakes through the summer/fall and try to get in at least one extended steelhead trip each year (combo nymphing and swinging with a spey rod), but strangely have never even attempted it with bass. The past couple years I've had good intentions of taking my float tube or kayak out in the spring when the bite heats up, but the boat and conventional gear always wins.

Awesome!  

 

I think one of the most relaxing things in the world is to sit in a float tube on a sunny, calm day with a two-weight fly rod and cast yellow foam spiders to sunfish.  I can practically hear them sucking it in, just thinking about it.

I have dabbled some in fly fishing though any serious trout flyfisherman would likely laugh him/herself to death if they watched me lay down a fly.  Fortunately, bass and bluegill seem to prefer a loud "splat" on the surface film (for which I am quite adept).  Flyfishing tends to take a  backseat most of the time but I hope to remedy that if/when I retire-God willing.

I just started this spring. Here in CO, fly fishing opens up so much more water to fish. I try to fish for trout as often as I can but I really fish for bluegills and bass most often. I'm also planning on trying to get some redfish on the fly this winter (wish me luck). For you guys who have never caught a bass on the fly, DO IT! you don't need an eight weight with 6/0 streamers, They're a blast on a 5 or 6 weight and hoppers or woolly buggers.
