RB 77 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Was just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about PowerPro fishing line. I like the Super 8 Slick. Pretty nice stuff. Try it you might like it. Soft and suple, easy to manage. I like 50 lb the most for baitcasters. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 For even more info, do a forum search on PowerPro. Very popular line, heavily discussed here. That said, I love it and use it on all of my reels, both spinning and casting. Spinning gets 10lb (regular PP) or 15lb (SS8 PP). Casting gets 20lb regular. And I tie on a leader for everything. Great line, highly recommended. Quote
Super User Felix77 Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 Love PowerPro. Have it on all my spinning. Full disclosure ... I tried Smackdown by Seaguar last year and loved it. Can't go wrong with either IMO. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 It's inexpensive and easy to find at Walmart. I run #15 on spinning and #30 on casting. There are other braids that are quieter but the price goes up. I've used pp for a long time and it's worked great. No complaints from me. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 I have 30 pound pp on both of my baitcasters and have 0 complaints. Quote
Justbass11 Posted December 11, 2015 Author Posted December 11, 2015 Thanks for all the reply's, another question for you guys. Why the higher pounds test? Why not just stay at 10 or 12 pound test?? I have baitcasters by the way that say 10 to 17 pound test. Quote

Braid lb test is different than mono due it's thinner diameter. #10 braid is equal to #2 mono when comparing diameter. Stick with #30 and you'll be fine. Quote
ABW Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Great line. I've got 10 lb on my spinning reel. Quote

I like 30-50lb. braid, which is equivelent to 8-12lb. mono. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted December 12, 2015 Super User Posted December 12, 2015 Lighter pound braid is so thin it will dig in itself and make a real mess of things. I like 30-50lb. braid, which is equivelent to 8-12lb. mono. I see this repeated all the time. I use 20 pound braid on my baitcasters and can't recall it ever happening to me. Of course I've had backlashes, but the Suffix 832 I've been using for quite a while has never done it. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 12, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 12, 2015 Power Pro is the only braid I use. Tried a few others but allways seem to come back to it. Mike Quote
desmobob Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I have plain old Power Pro on everything but my cranking, drop shot and topwater rods. I spool 30# or 40# over a bit of cheap mono backing and add a 6' leader of Seaguar AbrazX. I like this set up a lot and can't find any reasons to change, so far. I use it some spinning outfits, too. Tight lines, Bob Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 For you guys that use braid and a leader do you cast the junction knot through your guides with no problems? Quote
desmobob Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 For you guys that use braid and a leader do you cast the junction knot through your guides with no problems? Yes. I have the "macro" guides on most of my rods; slightly larger than micros, but still pretty small. The FG knot goes through effortlessly, the Alberto goes through pretty well. Tight lines, Bob Quote
Drew03cmc Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I'm using Power Pro 15/4 yellow/fluoro leader on my spinning rod and have no issues. Quote
SMITTY0045 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I only use power pro and Sufix for braid. It's good line Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 Ok. I see a backlash waiting to happen, but I will try it. Quote
tander Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I use the 10# Super 8 Slick with 7# leader on my spinning rod. No problem with the knot going through the guides. It is like it has no knot. Quote
