So the sixers suck and it has been on purpose because Tankie decided that was the best way to build a team....anyways now that they hired Colangelo I hope Tankie is out soon.

Happy day for sixers fans or at least this one

I'm a sixers fan as well.  It has been proven in this league that you need those 1 or 2 elite players in the draft to turn around a franchise.  The spurs, lakers, okc, chicago, and cleveland were all built by tanking, they just got lucky they won the lottery in a year that an elite player came out of college/H.S.  As bad as they have been, they haven't had the #1 pick since Iverson. The sixers have some good young players, they just need one elite player to have a good nucleus for years. Look how many teams are stuck in mediocrity and can't really compete for a title.  look how many teams have no shot to compete for free agents.  Teams need to tank to compete so they can draft or trade draft picks, that is how the league is built.  I believe Colangelo was brought in to ensure the lakers win the lottery.

The term is "Long term strategic plan" not tanking ...  :eyebrows:

Sorry but you are completely wrong.  No team has ever tanked for three straight years and put this pathetic of a product on the floor.  Do you know that a third of the minutes played on this team are by undrafted players?

Having the number #1 pick or a lottery pick by no means guarantees success as the draft is a crap shoot at best and Tankie has shown his talent evaluation skills are severely lacking.  To say the only way to build a team is to tank for three years just shows lack of skill at the GM position and ignorance of fans.  To say this is how the league is built is such a farce.  The lottery has been around for a long time yet no team has ever done this before but i am pretty sure there have been champions every year.  The only team mentioned that tanked, and really it wasn't even a tank because of an injury, was san antonio and it was for not even an entire season.  No free agents are going to want to a team that has a culture of losing and no loyalty to any player or even the fan base.

And how is colangelo going to help the lakers?  that just shows even more conspiracy theory crap that just isn't true.....

I am glad the league stepped in because this is an atrocity and total crap.

My condolensces..I thought they have been tanking to build the team since 1985.

And other than one bought title, when have the celtics done anything since the mid 80's?

One thing i will say is that Tankie has managed to brainwash a whole lot of people into thinking this is the only way to build a team with no proof, no resume or no examples of it working.

I guess the league/owners have had enough and said ok, you have made this team a laughingstock in all sports, not just basketball, so lets get a guy in here who actually knows basketball, and not just on a spreadsheet.

One thing you can say is the celts never tanked, they tried to at least compete..and Im gonna say most titles are bought in one form or another..not many homegrown teams happening.

I agree.  I don't even have a problem with buying talent.  I hate the celtics but they are in pretty good position going forward, very similar amount of picks than the sixers and never had to strip down to an expansion team to do it.

A good gm is the real way to be successfull..a good mix of trades, signings and drafting. The celts have nj's #1 pick this year..hows that looking..

As much as i hate the celtics, i use their model for success and rebuilding as an example 1 game very 25 games to rebuild a team.  Maybe if the draft was worst record gets top pick it might make sense but when the worst team rarely gets the top pick, tanking doesn't make sense.

I still think they should change the lottery to reward the top 3 teams closest to making the playoffs and put them in the lottery for the top 3 picks then the rest are worst to best record.  It rewards teams trying to win and also limits the amount of tanking till the end of the season when playoffs are becoming more materialized. It also could launch those teams that are getting close into the upper echelon while not impacting those that are already there.  Doing that almost instantly changes the entire complexion of the league and creates some new contenders the next season while rewarding the team for trying to win.

No team has tanked like the sixers? That's because teams like minn, orl, and cleve have had multiple years picking #1s.  I know its no guarantee all #1s are locks, but it sure does help. Teams like boston, LA, and mia have benefited from free agency.  As for playing time going to undrafted players, I believe injuries, and others still in europe have something to do with it.  I'm not going to defend their GM, but improving to mediocrity will harm this rebuilding process more.  I would rather tank than be in salary cap hell like the knicks were in for years.   I'll give you a hockey example.  The blackhawks sucked for years, acquired lots of very good talent picking high in the draft for years.  Then they win the lottery and pick Patrick Kane and become a modern day dynasty.

Problem is the worst team rarely even gets the number one pick.  I can't stand the thought of losing in an effort to rebuild either it cheapens the game and shows no respect for the sport or for the team or it's fans.

I see the mediocrity thing thrown around a lot and while there are some teams that get stuck there it by no means is always the final end point.  you have to grow as a team and need vets to do it.  the sixers starting 5 are younger than some college teams and it isn't because they are all great players either.  they have maybe 3 solid NBA players on the team right now and after 16 or so picks over three years that is sad.  That drafting alone tells me Tankie doesn't know talent evaluation....

No matter what though i see Colangelo as a step in the right direction and hopefully we can do something in next year's draft to make some noise and not for futility.

Having Okafor to build around is good. He had a few rough off the court problems arise recently but he will figure it out. Losing is tough and makes everyone's fuse shorter. He is a once in a decade type of player from an offensive skill set. Rebounding and defense should come more in time.

The Sixers really need to overhaul the 1-3 spots. Trades, draft, or free agency will be all they times to turn the tide.

Not a Sixers can really just a Duke fan...

Oak is decent for sure but he flat out sucks on defense.  Hopefully it won't matter.  Problem is him and Noel just don't seem to be mashing when on the floor together but part of that may be the horrible PG play too

You would think they potentially could on paper. An athletic shot blocker and a true low post scorer.

Say hypothetically they take Simmons number one. I don't feel like one player will change a 1 win team that much. IMO you have to have either 2 superstars or 3 really good all star type of players to make it. Preferebly a good forward//center and a good guard. I think if they added a really good scorer to compliment Okafor for that would help some as it appears that the NBA still lacks defense and offense rains king.

The other thing to consider is if Okafor wants out of his contract after 3 years or whenever it ends he will likely be looking for a winning team if there aren't pieces added to make the Sixers better between now and then. He was on a dominant high school team and obviously a Duke team that one it all. He isn't used to losing like this...

the sixers have control of these players pretty much through year 5 i believe.  The team is legitimately horrible top to bottom. Simmons will help for sure but so could a lot of players lol  I am not sold on Brown as a coach either.  He doesn't seem to be developing players and makes more than questionable decisions.

The Spurs didn't tank... David Robinson got hurt early in the year and never came back
