Jake the Cake Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 Thinking about trying out some Black Nickel, Holographic, Iridescent, etc. blades to break up the monotony of what I typically put on a spinnerbait. I know things don't always look like they do on the internet when you finally get to see them in person, so I was hoping some of you could discuss what turned out good, what looked ridiculous, and what turned out to be favorites. Super User WRB Posted December 10, 2015 Super User Posted December 10, 2015 Way back in the 70's the Miller brothers made spinnerbaits with fluorescent orange and pearl white spinner bait blades when every other spinnerbaits on the market had either Nickel, copper or brass blades. Millers spinnerbaits didn't sell even when the Millers were winning tournaments catching bass on them. Bass anglers are set in their ways. BPS/Cabelas both came out with baitfish printed spinnerbaits blades, they sold like hot cakes, even without any proof they worked. Today we have instant video of bass being caught and that is a game changer, anglers respond to video's. Tom Quote
Super User scaleface Posted December 10, 2015 Super User Posted December 10, 2015 In the 80's a popular color around here was a Blakemore spinnerbait with white skirt and red blades . Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 Mag willow blades or Oklahoma blades have turned out to be my favorites. 2 Quote
5fishlimit Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I really like to switch the standard willow blades on my spinnerbaits to the copper hammer finish blades. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 For me, blades are a visual and vibration thing, so I'll switch blades around until I find something that works. Just a few of examples: I'll switch to painted blades when I think the flash off of a metal blade is turning the fish off. I'll switch from smooth blades to hammered blades when I think smaller flashes of light is needed instead of a "beacon" of light from a smooth blade. I'll switch to a hammered blade provide more vibration during low light or poor water clarity. As far as what it looks like to me? Who cares, as long as a bass likes it. 1 Quote
