Super User Goose52 Posted December 9, 2015 Super User Posted December 9, 2015 Indeed. I've been wearing that Cabela's 3500 model as my PFD for the past 6 years. I rearmed it once at the 3 year point. Was going rearm it again this coming spring but I looked at it and it's dirty, smelly, sweaty, etc. after being worn for about 1,800 hours on the water. So, I ordered another 3500 model to just replace the old one in lieu of re-arming. Out with the old - in with the new... Quote

I have worn a manual inflatable belt for several years, but an auto inflatable vest would give a little more security. That's a great price. Goose all that dirt just adds character. I would just wash it in the sink and recharge! Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted December 9, 2015 Super User Posted December 9, 2015 I have been thinking about getting a full size vest for the new year. I would just wash it in the sink and recharge! Hey Kirby - normally I'm all for character, but in this case, I went NEW. The old vest is not only soiled, but the transparent plastic window in front of the gas cylinder came unglued and has been held in place with gorilla tape this past season and that window is what keeps moisture off the bobbin and prevents inadvertent firing. PLUS, at the 3 year point when I rearmed the unit - I fired off the old cylinder to see what would happen (see photo below) so the manual lanyard mechanism has already had a workout. So, after all of that, I thought I would go with the new solution... This particular Cabela's vest has 35lbs of buoyancy - a bit more than the 26-28lbs in other vests. It's been conformable to wear for those 1,800 hours in the boat so getting another one, at this great price ($95 shipped), was a no-brainer for me... Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted December 10, 2015 Super User Posted December 10, 2015 Goose I was just messing with ya! I've read enough of your posts to know you are a man who gets good value out of your stuff. If I can find a couple of extra dollars, I'm going to get two of the 3500s for me and my lovely wife. We are not getting any younger and having good lightweight jackets is important. Take care my friend. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted December 10, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 10, 2015 So, I went to Cabelas today in store price on the Tournament 3500 is $79.95. They did not have the Guidewear 3500 which is back to normal price online. They appear to be the same type 2 vest 35lbs of buoyancy and auto/manual inflation. Colors are different style is similar. I bought 2. 1 Quote

Super User slonezp Posted December 10, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 10, 2015 SCORE !!!! Yes and no. They got me for another hundred on top of the vests. I'm now the proud owner of a Rapala electric filet knife and a bunch of Husky Jerks Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted December 13, 2015 Super User Posted December 13, 2015 I am sure you will like that knife. I use one on perch from our reservoir all the time. Sometimes we come home and have to clean more than 50 perch at a time and it is a life saver! Just add the "shake and bake" style cajun seasoning (our local food store carries), melt some butter in the frying pan and look out, your tongue with smack both side of your mouth they are so good! 1 Quote
