Crankbaits Snaps Split Rings Or Both?

I really need to make a decision here of what to use on my cranks the split rings that come on em snaps or like some guys both, they just connect the snap to the split ring. Think I can count the last one out maybe it gives it more action but I don't have time to try every crank I have to see if it works better with one both or either. I guess I want to use snaps for quick lure change, and no worries of line breaking cuz of it rubbing back and forth from the single to double wire on the ring. This has been asked before but not enough answers for a good decision, just answer snap, split ring or both if u want I would really appreciate it guys, thanks!

One or the other but not both. I prefer to tie to the split ring but nothing wrong with using the appropriate sized snap if the split ring is removed.

I tried the snaps after a tournament where i tried about 10 different cranks.

Turns out Im faster tying SDJ knot than working the snap on the small eye.

I tie directly to the rings. I have changed the vast majority of my crankbaits over to oval split rings. This eliminates the issue of having the line slip into the ring itself. I have found that using a snap with split ring tends to give me more hook tangles.

I tie direct most of the time, but this past fall I went back to using a snap swivel and clipped it on the split ring since I knew I was going to be cycling through quite a few different crankbaits. It worked perfectly with no issues. Some will tell you not to do that, but I'm unsure of the reason behind. It seemed to work for me and these girls didn't seem to mind one bit

I have always used snaps for Crankbaits and never thought about the split ring. If one is there I connect the snap to it, if not I go directly to the eye. No issues that I can think of.

I use a snap 100% of the time. Mostly right to the split ring but on some lures I do remove the split ring to compensate the difference in weight added by the snap.

This coming season I am going to take the split ring off a few and use a snap, just for grins and giggles.

I never use snaps on crank baits. I tie directly to the split ring or eye, depending on the lure. This forces me to re-tie when I want to change lures, but that's not always a bad thing, as it gives me a chance to check the line for nicks and scuffs.

i've tried to use the snaps (norman speed clips) out of convenience.....  BUT like montanaro i wasted more time fooling with the clips than tying a knot.  those tiny little clips are not made for gorilla hands like mine....

For crank baits I have always tied my line directly to the split ring. For some reason I've just been worried about the strength of the snaps so I never gave it a try. Snaps could give you an advantage of extra action possibly, however, I like to put another split ring on the existing split ring, it will let the crank bait sway much more freely and less uniformly (Becareful with this trick, I have used this method to add action before, but on certain crankbaits it can totally destroy the intended action, and swim way to erratically.) Also for people with large hands snaps can be a pain.

I tie direct to an oval split ring 100% of the time.  As soon as I take a bait out of the package I put an oval split ring on and change the hooks, if necessary.

It is with the oval split ring, I put them on every hard bait that comes with a split ring.  I'm less likely to change hooks initially with jerkbaits for fear of messing up the suspension.

Depending on what I am fishing for, and the bait I am using, I may or may not tie directly to the split ring. When I use a snap I just hook it directly to the split ring if there is one.

I use oval split rings on all my crankbaits and tie direct. I used the snap a few times but didn't really like it. I also like retying my line often so I prefer to retie everytime I switch crankbaits.

I have started taking the split rings off and using a snap to the eye. I found it is much quicker and easier to get the snap on the stationary eye.

I never use split rings. Absolutely never! I remove them from all lures and tie direct to the lure. You will not find one single lure in my tackle boxes with them, except for attaching the hooks, but not the line.

 

If I need a loose knot for better lure motion I tie a rapala knot.

Split rings on most of all the CRANKBAIT and popper pull eyes. I use ball bearing locking snap swivels to change baits faster. I have a hard time tying knots.

I believe I get a better, smoother, wobble out of the crankbaits using locking snap swivels.

Split rings on hooks is suppose to be better for hookups.

Well looks like I'm gonna remove the split rings and go with a high quality snap as it will allow me to change baits faster to find what the fish want. I also won't neglect re-tying my line to my snap like some guys worry about.
