Reid Carter Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I heard that Dobyns rods are a little on the softer side. A Heavy action is close to a medium heavy. Anyone have any experience with them to confirm that? Quote
68camaro Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I heard the opposite, I have a med-heavy that is my understanding runs more heavy but I never fished a heavy to compare it to can't really say. I am sure one of the experts here will weigh-in. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 Action refers to bend of the blank Power is the weight rating rod can handle Reviewers can confuse you by using these terms interchangeably. Most manufacturers power ratings are close to accurate to the listed lure weight. Figure out what weight you wikl use rod for and go from there. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 In their non flipping and cranking models, yes their heavy (5 power) is closer to what one would consider a medium heavy. The 735 in all lines is a heavy power rod. The dx 745 is also heavy. Their line up is hard to gauge. Some fish spot on and some fish a power less or 1/2 power less. A specific model is easier to answer. 1 Quote
druben Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 For dobyn's all of their 4 power rods (704, 734, etc.) are rated heavy by Dobyn's but these are on the softer side and fish like most MH's. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 With Dobyns buy 1 power higher. 3 power = medium 4 power = medium heavy Quote
Reid Carter Posted December 9, 2015 Author Posted December 9, 2015 Thanks I ordered a 734 savvy micro guide for Texas rigs and jigs Quote
Robert Riley Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I have a DX745, it's a "Mag Heavy" it's more of a Medium Heavy in my opinion. But my Savvy 703 is on the light side of medium. The 734 is a good choice for those applications. Quote
Boonie Vang Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Lol, same here, my dx744 feels like a medium heavy. Quote
