EricTheAngler Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Hey guys, You all know im new to the bass fishing world and Christmas is fast approaching. I have enough rods for what and how often if fish. Im looking for essential items I should ask "santa" for Christmas. Heres my list so far. Assorted Quality Soft plastics from Gary Yamamato, Zoom and Yum. Assortment of jigs, and trailers. Crankbaits. Shakey heads. A tackle backpack. Any ideas, im going to be fishing a pond complex this next season starting January first. Quote

BaitMonkey1984 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I am going to say something that isn't flashy or fun. However, its absolutely necessary- terminal tackle. I almost exclusively use gamagstku hooks. They are not cheap, especially if you are getting snagged. Getting a new lure, or a new reel is fun. Spending $100 on treble hooks and split rings to replace the hardware on crank baits isn't fun. Trust me I did just that last week. I always make it a point to buy those boring yet critical items in the winter. That way when summer comes I am stocked and can fish. I have plenty of tackle and therefore if I go through a few bags of watermelon creme senkos in a day, it does bother me as much as if I went to the store that day, spent $30 bucks, and by days end have no more worms and only a few drinks. Do the same thing with seafoam, oil, and enzyme treatment. Stock up in the winter then when summer comes- your wallet gets a reprieve. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 Just ask for a TW gift card and you can use it as your needs arise. Easy. A-Jay 6 Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 TW gift card for the win. 10% off right now, too. Can't lose. Quote
Super User Jrob78 Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 Have to agree with the gift cards. If the people buying the gifts don't fish, they aren't going to know what to buy. 2 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 I am asking for gift cards. It is faster for them and safer for me. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 8, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 I'm asking for gift cards but unfortunately my wife's side of the family has an aversion to gift cards (it's a lazy gift apparently?) Hopefully it won't be another year of polo shirts I'll never wear, I'd prefer they just save their money. 8 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 x8ish on the gift cards Quote
BassMaster17 Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 i agree with the gift card, but if you can go one step further, ask for straight up money, then you can buy tackle whenever you see a bait you want, or a sale thats only at one store, but if your a spending machine then gift card might suit you more. Super User HoosierHawgs Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 I want a nice fishing jacket and a new spinning reel this year. I also indicated to my father that the Rico Blems on sale at TW would make a great stocking stuffer. Quote
EricTheAngler Posted December 8, 2015 Author Posted December 8, 2015 So far I know I should ask for Gift card to TW, and hooks. Any fun items for fishing ponds like lures during the later part of the winter season (January-February) Quote

Hopefully it won't be another year of polo shirts I'll never wear, I'd prefer they just save their money. Oh my GAWD!, that is so true! I am so tired of my Mother-In-Law ticking money away on shirts I'll never wear, or stupid gag gifts that only she thinks is funny. Especially when she knows I love gift cards. At THAT point, with the gag gifts, it's just insulting, like "I know I coulda actually given you something you actually hoped for, but here's a cheap chachki, to rub it in your face". Why don't you just set your money on fire in front of me. At least I'd get some warmth out of it. Quote

Racerx Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Good idea. She gets overly sensitive, so I'm sure she'd walk out, boo-hooing. Quote
NJSalt Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 I never ask for anything anymore. I usually end up with gift cards which is fine. Last year I used the gift cards to buy an AldebaranHG and the year before I picked up an OrochiXX Quote
Sandhillcrab Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 Gift cards are gold!! But I love soft plastics. I buy from power team lures. There farly cheep for the most part and very well built. But for slow fishing buy authentic X pulse r's. Spinner baits are also good and cheep. But stick with gift cards! Can't go wrong with them. Crank baits are good as well. Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted December 8, 2015 Super User Posted December 8, 2015 Build a shopping cart at an online merchant (Susquehanna Fishing, maybe?) of stuff that you dream of having, but are NOT ready to buy yourself. Maybe its a Hudd, or Lucky Craft Pointers, or tungsten weights, or perhaps a spool of Shooter or Tatsu....maybe its a rain gear upgrade from a 3mm poncho like I use....or an SPF hoodie sun shirt....I dunno what your 'dream shopping cart' looks like, but make one up, print it out and leave it laying where your wife, or parents, or whomever can see it/access it - give it to them....whatever Point is, let them get you something that you would really like to have, but won't buy for yourself right now. IMO, that'd be much better than a gift card. Gift cards ARE lazy. So is not bothering to learn whether your SIL wants a polo shirt or not....But, if you get a gift of a really cool lure, you'll remember it and associate it with the giver for a long time...or at least until you send it into a tree. 1 Quote
