Karsonclowers Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 So im thinking about getting a rod to start using medium sized a-rigs and medium sized swimbaits like a 6" huddleston or the huddgill. I want one for a cheap price too Quote
stkbassn Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Check out the Dobyns Fury 795, should be a good rod for you. It's probably even more versatile than that also. For $120 I can't think of a better one. Quote
Karsonclowers Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 that does look pretty good Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted December 7, 2015 Super User Posted December 7, 2015 I just picked up that Fury 795 on Black Friday for just this same application. It should be a perfect fit and it wont' break your budget. Quote
stkbassn Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 that does look pretty good If you sign up with American Legacy I believe they give you $25 toward a purchase. You might be able to apply this to your order if you get it from them. When I signed up that wasn't available. I keep trying to re-sign up! LOL. Quote
Karsonclowers Posted December 7, 2015 Author Posted December 7, 2015 Is that rod good for a 8" hudd too? And what else could I do with the rod. I was planning on using bout 40 lb braid too Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted December 8, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 8, 2015 yeah i saw that before i guess 15 or 20 lb mono or fluro would be better 20-25 pound mono or copoly is what a lot of guys use. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 9, 2015 Super User Posted December 9, 2015 Rods should be compatible with the reel being used for the presentation. Lure weight and rod length for A-rigs is generally 1-4 oz, 7'6" to 7'10", most anglers prefer using 40-50 lb braid and 200-300 size reels. 6" Hudd weighs 2 1/4 oz and can be fished with the above A-rig rod, most anglers prefer 20 lb mono line and 200-300 size reels. Going up to a 8" Hudd changes the lure weight to 4 1/2 oz, swimbait rods are usually 7'6" to 8", with a foregrip, Xheavy power moderate action, reels 300-400 size using 25-30 lb mono line. The 8" Hudd is too heavy for most A-rig specific rods, need a swimbait HX rod. Price the Okuma A series Guide Select heavy works for the A-rig/ 3 oz swimmers, HX for the heavier 4 to 6 oz swimmers, $125 approx. Daiwa DX MH swimbait rod, Irod Gen II Swimbait JR or A-rig rod, all 3 fit your needs using A-rigs and 6" Hudds. Tom Quote
Robert Riley Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 I use a Champion 806, but I have faith in Dobyns, the Savvy is a very good choice. You definitely want to use 20-25lb mono. Use braid if you want to buy more A-rigs Quote
