Abu Garcia Rods

Hey Bassresource. Is there anybody who owned or used these two rods? I need help choosing my next reaction bait Rod. I'm looking at the Abu Garcia Veritas and the Abu Garcia Villain. I can get either one for under $100. Which is the better choice? I hear a lot of bad reviews of the villain but it was originally priced at $180. Is it better than the veritas? 

 

 I Own the veritas in 7' MH/f and really like it for reaction baits. The guides aren't the straightest and has blobs of epoxy glue all over but it's done the job well and is more sensitive than my St Croix Premier.

I own three Veritas (6'9" MH/F, 7' M/F, 6'6" M/F) and one Villian (7'1" M/M).  The Villain is lighter and a little stiffer than the Veritas.  I like the Veritas more because they 'feel' better and load really well regardless of what bait I toss.  My MH/F is rated for 1/4 - 1 oz and is the one I use the most.  

 

I'd call the Veritas a more rounded rod and the Villian 'classier'.  

 

Either way you're getting a great rod.

I'm pretty much a St. Croix rod guy but if I can give my two cents on a garcia rod I have a Vendetta 6'9" ML x-fast rod that I love to death. If I can find the same series in a 6'3" med. fast action for a steal of a price I picking it up.

i own the veritas 7' MH/F i use it for general flipping and pitching i also have a 6'6" MH/F that i use for topwaters and jerkbaits

 

i love the feel of the rod it fits comfortably in the hand and it feels very light

I highly recommend the Ike Series over the Veritas. With the various sales going on this time of year, it shouldn't be hard to get one for around $100.

I own the middle ground veracity, and absolutely love them. I will be going after a villain this off season.

 

I'd like to mention that both the veritas and villain both have a 2.0 version which is said to have a pretty big impact on quality. Abu Garcia has improved to 2.0 with any rods that in which the originals had common issues. For example, the original veritas rods were having guide break off and random blank failure, but the 2.0 version addressed those issues.

I have both rods. I use the Villain a lot more that me Veritas. When comparing the Villain is lighter and more sensitive but the big factor for me is the Villain has a more true rating. Their M feels like a M and MH feels like a MH. To me Veritas rods seem to be a little stiffer than their rating.

The knock on the original Villain is they were supposed to be super light with carbon thread wraps on the guides and their own carbon formulation in-house reel seat. What happened is the rod they cam out with was much heavier than a lot of rods in their price range so they took a bad rap because of it but it isn't what I'd call a bad rod. If you get one at a good price that fits your needs then pick one up.

I'd say the villain, I had one as my jig rod before I upgraded to a DX745. Good rod, good price as I get a similar deal.

I have some veritas rods as my cranking sticks. Good for cranking, not much else, not very sensitive. Can pass as a reaction bait rod

I used a Veritas 2.0 6'6" med fast for topwater and spinnerfbaits,  had extreme success my first year,  also have the Veritas 2.0 winch 7' paired with the Revo Winch for my crankbaits

Don't want to hijack this Abu thread, my advice is look into 8 Tackle for a good quality rod at entry level prices.

My Veritas micro is built like a tank and will do whatever you need it to do.  I agree with most though with Abu's power ratings on this model.  My M action is more like a MH action.

 I have a Abu Vendetta 6'3" Medium Spinner (not sure on action) that has the 2nd guide broken off.

Assuming I'm still good to use it with the missing guide...what would this length and stiffness of a rod be good for? I'm drawing a blank.

Have used a veritas before and they are good rods, lightweight and sensitive

I've bought two of the IKE rods. Really nice workmanship. The 74-6 is a great rod for frogs,toads and flipping. The 70-5 I havent used yet, but I know I'll like it.. Should be a very versatile rod. Both are well balanced. 

Costs more than $100.00 though and worth it.

Abu Garcia has fantastic customer service. If you're the original owner of the rod and you have  the receipt then they'll send you a brand new rod if it's been within 3 years. You can look the warranty requirement up online and shoot them an email with pictures of everything needed. Within a couple weeks you'll have a brand new rod at your door.
