Super User Raul Posted December 6, 2015 Super User Posted December 6, 2015 What are you using for your jigs and t rigs? I have been using Big Game in 14lb for most applications when using my baitcasters (cranks, jigs, spinnerbaits, etc). I usually use fluoro 4-8lbs for ned and dropshot on spinning. Should I be doing something different? Whatever tickles your fancy, if you feel you are doing fine why change ? 2 Quote

Should I be doing something different? I usually have Red Label fluoro on my jig and T rig rods. I do have at least one with Big Game though. I don't have any spinning rods spooled with fluoro anymore. All of them are braid with fluoro leaders except one I use for casting small cranks. 1 Quote
PourMyOwn Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I use Red label for all of my deep water/finesse presentations, Silver Thread copolymer on just about everything else. I use braid for my frog rod and when I fish jigs in the pads. My father uses Trilene XL instead of Silver Thread and it's just a matter of preference. When I take one of his rods with me I notice, but it's still good line. Quote
Super User smalljaw67 Posted December 6, 2015 Super User Posted December 6, 2015 I have a flipping stick and frog rod with braid and the ret of my set ups are mono and I feel I have no disadvantage at all. I'm using Big Game 10lb and 12lb on my cranking and topwater set ups and I'm using Spider Wire ultimate Mono on everything else, I really love this line, it has a really low stretch, excellent knot strength and the abrasion resistance is incredible. I do like Big Game almost as much, the difference is the spider wire Ultimate Mono has less stretch and it is super thin, the 10lb Spider wire is the same diameter as 8lb Big Game and the 12lb diameter is the same as 10lb Big Game, the stuff is really nice. 1 Quote
doyle8218 Posted December 6, 2015 Posted December 6, 2015 I use Yo-Zuri for almost everything now. Quote
corn-on-the-rob Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I run Sufix 832 braid with Trilene 100% professional grade fluoro leaders when necessary. Everyone seems to use something different and the key is to find something that works for you. Do some experimenting to see what you like, then stick with it! Quote
dcmclassic Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I use all braid on my spinning combos, mainly because I never could learn to manage flouro on a spinning reel. Tried to spool it every way possible. My baitcasting combos are mostly Suffix or Big Game, I like the Suffix better as a line but the Big Game is super budget friendly. Vicious flouro on T-rig and deep crankbait. Power Pro Silk on pretty much everything else. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted December 9, 2015 Super User Posted December 9, 2015 I use Berkley 100% Fluoro for almost anything casting other than topwaters, pitchin'/punchin'/froggin'. On spinning reels I'll run either braid or fluoro. 1 Quote
Turtle135 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 I am using Trilene XT monofilament for everything. It works for me and the presentations I prefer. Trilene XT way over tests on "break strength". I pick which XT line to use based more on "diameter" than break strength. I am pretty sure I could tow my truck with 17 pound test Trilene XT. Quote
Super User QUAKEnSHAKE Posted December 9, 2015 Super User Posted December 9, 2015 10-12 and just bought16# FC Sniper. I have 6# Trilene100%FC but only used it a few times and took it off. The Sniper has worked very well for me management wise strength wise longevity the only complaint is the stretch has been too much for my liking. My main use for it has been Keitech swimbaits oh not a mono user Well scratch out my 10# sniper I toasted about 200' of it today, spool held nearly 100yrds. I bought a Daiwa SV105P and had 20# S8S on it able to get some good force in a cast and management was fine down to 2 clicks so last night took it off and put on 10#SniperFC. I went out today and had brakes set high to half way10 clicks and was throwing a 3.8" Fat Impact with 1/4oz jighead doing ok but distance wasnt there. I set the brakes back to where I did for my braid, 2 clicks, BIG MISTAKE I gave a good heave and oh thats not good, spent about 30 minutes on the shore trying to get the birdsnest out, decided to give in. I pull the spool out and ripped the line off and only about 80' or so of the line was salvaged. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted December 9, 2015 Posted December 9, 2015 10 and 12 FC for SBs and med cranks 14 sunline for swim jigs and pitchin light t rigs 50lb 832 frog and flippin 10 or 12 mono for poppers and sexy dawgs 10lb nanofil with 6lb FC leader for ned Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted December 9, 2015 Super User Posted December 9, 2015 Trilene xt and Sufix 832 braid. Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted December 10, 2015 Super User Posted December 10, 2015 Vast majority is mono (or Co-Polymer). Reasons are price, handling and I grew up using mono. Works pretty good for most anything. Of course, just like most everybody else, I use fluoro or braid in certain instances. Not sure I need the fluoro, but braid sure is nice when I am throwing back into lily pads and other junk. Hate losing lures. 1 Quote

I assume one of the first two. Will have to give some a try. Quote

ABW Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 12 lb Big Game because it is inexpensive. Or Sufix 832 braid. For spinning I use 10 lb power pro to a leader. Quote

I assume one of the first two. Will have to give some a try. The Ultimate Mono and ultimate mono clear is one in the same, if you look you'll notice the mono is only available in 14lb test. The reason it is listed like that is because the clear is the new packaging, when it came out it was only available as clear but now they added the brown recluse to it. So I use the clear and to me this is the best mono I ever used, period!!! Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted December 11, 2015 Super User Posted December 11, 2015 Experimenting now with sinking braid (Sufix Gravity2) with and without a flouro leader. Quote
RonStewart Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I use very cheap mono as a backer for all my reels. I use fluro for everything. I like BPS XPS fluro & viscous. I'm going to switch my jerkbait rod to mono so it helps the bait suspend. My brother in law used braid with a fluro leader on everything. He just started doing that & I'm not sure of his reasoning. livewireksu Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 Seaguar Tatsu and Kanzen Yozuri Hybrid for moving baits Quote
bassr95 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 IMO flouro is the only choice for bottom contact baits. I go with either mono or hybrid line for moving baits, and braid for frogs 1 Quote
Fishing03xx Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I just got into bass fishing and only got setup for now but i used 12# Yo Zuri hybrid since i think that can be a good all around line. Am i wrong? Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted December 13, 2015 Global Moderator Posted December 13, 2015 I just got into bass fishing and only got setup for now but i used 12# Yo Zuri hybrid since i think that can be a good all around line. Am i wrong? No, you're not wrong. I use the 12# for cranks and will this year start useing it for spinnerbaits also..It doesn't float or sink, it just kind stays where you put it. It's fairly sensative enough to use for bottom contact presentation's but not ideal. 12# would scare me in heavy vegetation, but with it's 19lb breaking strength you can get by. I know guy's, and some on here who use 20# floro for flippin and not braid, and they do fine. Good Luck and Welcome Mike 1 Quote
