I've never fished the 894, but I have an NRX 893 and don't see any problems using a 3/8 ounce jig.  With a lure rating of 3/16-5/8 ounce, the 3/8 would be right in it's wheelhouse.  I use my 893 for up to 1/2 ounce jig + plastic and there is plenty of backbone for a strong hookset, but I've only used it in open water.  Heavier cover may lead you to an 894 instead.

While I have only fished the 893 I throw 3/8oz jigs all time on it. Hadles it flawlessly.

I really only fish 1/4-3/8oz jigs, but I do throw it to wood quite a bit and never have any issues.

I have a couple 893's and they're great with 1/4-3/8 oz jigs (I rarely if ever fish larger than 3/8 oz jigs anywhere)

IMO the 852 works better for 3/8.

The 893 is about the best rod I have ever used for anything up to 1/2 oz. The 894 is an overkill as others have mentioned.

Sweet rod  :)
