Super User Wayne P. Posted December 3, 2015 Super User Posted December 3, 2015 How about a bass about 3' long attacking a school of shad? No, I didn't catch it, but did try for about 1/2 hour. 3 Quote
MattStrykul Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 There is a great thread with a bunch of pics over in the electronics section of the forum.... http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/127481-screenshots/ Mr. Wayne P ^^^ has a bunch of great posts and truly is a master of his trade. I've been checking that thread every day for updates! Learning a bunch, and can't wait to get my hands on an 899ci! Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted December 4, 2015 Super User Posted December 4, 2015 Neat to see those shad all balled up there. Something's on them. Not sure I'm seeing the 3ft bass... Don't see a single gas bladder return. Could it be a string of shad? Quote

That is not 2D sonar that reflects air bladder 2D pulses, it's imaging that shows the body of subjects. Compare the big fish to the depth. Look at post #8 and #9 here: http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/127481-screenshots/ They are not air bladder returns, it's the body of the fish. Quote
Super User Paul Roberts Posted December 4, 2015 Super User Posted December 4, 2015 Ah! Thanks Wayne. No, I'm not familiar with imaging. Only 2D. And... how do I compare the fish with the depth? I see 9.8 feet, but... Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 4, 2015 Super User Posted December 4, 2015 With Side Imaging the images are recorded on the display from the top to the bottom instead of right to left like 2D sonar. The newest data is at the top and oldest history is at the bottom. The water column (depth) is between the centerline and the recorded bottom (blue color) on both sides. Compare the length of the bass with the width of the water column (black area). If you copy the image to your computer and zoom in on the bass, you can see it has its mouth open. Just have to train your eyes to see the detail. I took that screen shot about a month before the Alabama rig was widely known. I wish I had that presentation available at that time, I may have had a better chance of competing with the shad school. BTW, that technology has been on the market since 2004. Quote

Sounds like trying to decoy geese. A couple dozen dekes just can't compete. You sit there and can't help but watch em ignore you. I'm outta the loop there. Sticking with my 2D for the time being. Next upgrade will likely be Downscan. Quote
lo n slo Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 I gave it a shot with my iphone Wayne. Not the best quality. But it appears to show the open mouth and the eyes. Am I seeing this right, or what? Quote
