I have this great old Zebco rod that I've had since I graduated from my snoopie pole.  It's in great shape and it's the most comfortable rod to me because I've used it for so long.  Great strength great sensitivity great everything and especially great memories.

PROBLEM - the Zebco spincast reel that I've had with it recently broke (probably because it was 20 years old) and I need a new one.  The problem I'm having is that this rod doesn't fit typical reels.  It only fits reels that SCREW IN WITH A BOLT FROM THE BOTTOM.  Anyone know where I can still get a reel like this?  The rod doesn't have any moveable parts to tighten the reel down like 99% of the poles out there, it has a hole in the bottom where you bolt the reel in.  Please help, don't want to let this rod go to waste when it's still in prime condition.

There are plenty of Vintage Spincast reels available on the big auction site -

Although I remember & actually had the model you've described, I didn't see one right off.

But taping a reel to a rod is a fairly common & effective method of securing it and may be an option for you in this case.

Scotch makes a professional grade Vinyl Electrical tape (Super 88) that I've had great success with is many applications include saltwater.

Good Luck

this is what i did to hold a spinning reel on to one of my ultralights and after a couple years the tape still held like new....

Never thought of taping it!  Do you know if they still make these screw in reels or is that pretty much a thing of the past now?  I'd prefer not to buy a 20 year old reel just to have one to fit this pole.

Doesn't the front foot of the reel fit underneath a piece that is tightened by the screw underneath? Are you missing that piece?

I don't believe so.  I'll have to take another look at it.  Unless I'm looking at it wrong, the reel sits in a pocket on the rod then there's a bolt with a large head (to screw by hand) that goes directly into the reel footing and tightens the reel directly.  I'm Googling images of it right now and can't find anything that would accurately show my dilemma.  I'll come back tomorrow with some pictures.

Yep, TOTAL manual error.  Found the piece laying next to the rod that tightens down the front foot.  Not the first time I've been 100% wrong!!! Thanks for the help!!
