BassMan85 Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Hello I inherited a Minn Kota and Jon boat from my uncle that died 2 weeks ago. Its a model 35 transom mount with 24 lb thrust. It has a plug in much like a home plug in. I contacted MK with no success. Need to know how to hook this up to a marine battery on the boat. Thank you. Quote
Sprocket Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 Cut the plug off. Put circle electrical ends on, connect red wire to positive and black wire to negative on the battery. SE Kansas grass grower Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 3, 2015 Super User Posted December 3, 2015 Before you cut the plug off, check the boat for a receptacle that the plug fits. The boat may have been wired to use that plug. The motors don't come with plugs, just ring terminals. The plug is on the power cord for a reason. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted December 3, 2015 Super User Posted December 3, 2015 Either do what is mentioned above or you'll need a really really long one of these ~ A-Jay 2 Quote
BassMan85 Posted December 3, 2015 Author Posted December 3, 2015 No receptacle so I don't know how they were using it. I'll cut the plug and get the terminals. Ok, so what's the best battery? I saw an Ever start Marine battery at Walmart for $70. Will any battery work or does it have to be a marine battery with higher amps? Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted December 3, 2015 Super User Posted December 3, 2015 A DEEP CYCLE battery. The larger the size, the more run time you get. 1 Quote
Robeng Posted December 3, 2015 Posted December 3, 2015 As wayne said, deep cycle marine battery for trolling motors. Quote
