Super User WRB Posted December 2, 2015 Super User Posted December 2, 2015 Paul Bailey fishing with Matt Newam caught a potential WR spot last weekend. For details search "11.4 Spotted Bass". Congrates Paul! Tom 1 Quote
Looking for the big one Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 You got that from the Bassblaster? Great story, great fish, horrible ending courtesy of California Fish and Game. Good luck to the two. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 2, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 2, 2015 It looks like the bass was released prior to being officially validated by the DFW biologist. Unfortunately world record catch and release bass are rarely validated in California. We don't have local DFW officials avialible on short notice, unless there is a tournament on the lake. Tom Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted December 2, 2015 Super User Posted December 2, 2015 Just read this tonight... absolute joke no one from DFW was available even with them offering to drive somewhere. If the 11.4 was on a certified scale hopefully that's enough to get them the record. I am curious to hear if they caught her where either of the last two records were caught or if we have a 3rd WR spot lake in CA. Quote

I am curious to hear if they caught her where either of the last two records were caught or if we have a 3rd WR spot lake in CA. having lived in northern California for 4 years. There's a few great spot lakes other than B.B. and N.M. I doubt it came from Shasta, but maybe W.T.L Quote
Super User senile1 Posted December 2, 2015 Super User Posted December 2, 2015 Beautiful fish. California is producing some mammoth spots. Quote
baxtervol Posted December 2, 2015 Posted December 2, 2015 According to Bassmaster article, they are keeping location secret because they are concerned for the fish having too much pressure. They are only revealing it was a northern california reservoir. Surely the location has to be named in the documentation for the record? I would think that info would be public if you wanted to know. Anyway, Newman had hooked up with an eight pounder and while he was dealing withhisfish Bailey threw to same spot and hookedthe 11.4. The cool thing is their friend Shea McIntee filmed it all for his show Stoked on Fishing. It will air in Feb. Quote
Super User WRB Posted December 2, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 2, 2015 Our lakes are at very low pool and vulnerable to being over harvested by anglers seeking a world record bass. We went through this with Castiac and Casitas during the 90's, insane number of bait fisherman from all over the country just devastated the giant bass populations. Loose lips sinks ships as the saying goes. Can't blame Matt or Paul for trying to keep the lake unknown, it will get soon! Tom 1 Quote
