Super User buzzed bait Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 Please pardon my mechanical ignorance, but I have 2 Curado 51e's and would like to see about bumping the gears up on one to a higher ratio like 7.1:1. Questions: Is this a possibility? Is this costly? What all part would this include? Where would I find said parts? Thanks for any help! Quote
Super User tomustang Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 Yes, it's actually cheap enough to do Quote

Aside from the main and pinion you need a few other parts. I have it all written down. Let me see if I can find it for you. Order the parts from Japan Tackle. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 Core gear set works fine! Have 6 in rotation Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 Yes, the core gears work great. I had a set in my Chronarch 51e. I mentioned the Brenious gears because you can get a little more ipt out of them. Core gears can be ordered from Shimano and I think it ran me about $30. You need - Core 51 mg7 parts Main gear - part 4070 Pinion gear - part 4073 Key washer - part 3941 Yoke 'optional' - part 4074 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted December 1, 2015 Author Super User Posted December 1, 2015 Thanks dudes! I knew some of the gear junkies would come through for me! Any links to some an article or video or something with the process laid out? Quote

Any links to some an article or video or something with the process laid out? Take the handle and drag star off. Remove the side plate. Pull the pinion gear off and the main gear. Replace those two parts and add a little grease to the teeth of the main gear. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 Core 7:0:1 takes up 28" of line. Brenious 7:7:1 takes up 30" of line. Core gears are aluminum and the Brenious has brass gears. I went with Core gears since they're easy to order direct from Shimano and the difference in ipt wasn't much. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 The brens 7.7, core 7.1, its the IPT's that make it a slower than average Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted December 1, 2015 Super User Posted December 1, 2015 The brens 7.7, core 7.1, its the IPT's that make it a slower than average Yeah, that's why I just used the core gears. I was going off of memory but I was off a bit. It's been a while since I did the swap though. Quote
