Mk Eo Outboard Motor

I'm interested in the MK EO outboard motor in 1/2 hp for my Tracjker Topper 1436 jon boat. We have a lot of lakes designated electric motor only. I already have a MK PowerDrive bow mount TM on it. Is it to new or to late in the season for reviews? Or your opinions  Thanks,

I've never used that motor, nor do I know anybody who has. 

 

The fact that it's rated at 1/2hp leads me to believe that it would reach 275ft/lbs of torque, but I find that very hard to believe. I read the ad and it says "up to 3mph." My bow mount MK will do that.

 

If you're looking to build a serious reservoir rig, you may want to check into golf cart motors/batteries. I am not very familiar with the conversion for these set ups, but I'm sure you can find a lot of information online. I've seen these rigs on some of the lakes I fish, and they can move. Not sure of speeds, but they looked to be doing over 12mph, maybe 15. As far as I've heard, you can build these for relatively little money if you do your homework.

On one electric only lake near me, the Torqueedo is common. I've even seen a Minn Kota E-Drive. All are extremely expensive (more than a new 15 HP gasser), but would be great for a "dedicated" rig. The Minn Kota is advertised for 5 mph on a full size pontoon. My jon boat with a 15 out ran a pontoon with a 60 so I'd say you could expect quite a bit more than 5 MPH

Here in MD we have a lot of reservoir rig fisherman. I agree with the last poster.  Here the Torquedos are king. They replaced the 60 volt Ray electric motors due to quiet operation and less batteries needed so less weight.  They are not cheep though.  The E drive is going to leave you a little disappointed with its performance.  I have spoken to several guys who have them.  I also have a friend with a MK Vantage 101,that is a 36 volt 101 pound thrust transom mount trolling motor.  He really likes that motor and has been using it for several years.  Good Luck and let us know which way you go.
