Heron Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Some of you may have seen this, but this is my first time stumbling across this very interesting article about a fella in Georgia, who consistently hunts giant bass using primarily a selection of buzzbaits. Enjoy. http://www.gon.com/fishing/1113-giant-bass-and-counting 3 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted November 25, 2015 Super User Posted November 25, 2015 The man can fish the heck out of a buzzbait. And why is it that I don't fish them again ? ? ? ? Oh I remember now, because I'm a spaz. A-Jay 1 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 25, 2015 Super User Posted November 25, 2015 WOW! Great article. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 25, 2015 Super User Posted November 25, 2015 I posted this or referred to Pat Cullen a while back in a thread RW started on high-end reels. Excellent article, proves the worth of an Ugly Stik, LOL 1 Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted November 25, 2015 Super User Posted November 25, 2015 That was incredible. Thanks for sharing. Quote
Ohio Archer Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Loved fishing buzzbaits in FL. At night they were "heart attack" baits, especially when they got hit right next to the boat. Worked well on Okeechobee and the canals in the Everglades. Caught 20-25 2-3 lb bass on one canal on a windy day. Running them across the openings in the levees skipping across the tops of the waves. Nothing like this gentleman but still a great day. 1 Quote
The Young Gun Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 That is a crazy cool read!!! I love guys who prove you dont need a 620 or 300verado to catch fish! 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 26, 2015 Super User Posted November 26, 2015 I remember Bassmaster doing a article on this about 5 years ago along with a guy from Florida catching numbers of 18 lb+ bass. I put both in "it's too good to be true file". Doubting Thomas 1 Quote
Super User Team9nine Posted November 26, 2015 Super User Posted November 26, 2015 Seems like location, location, location to me.....but then again we've had that big, long discussion before. -T9 3 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted November 26, 2015 Super User Posted November 26, 2015 1. Sounds lime that gentleman who posted on thd general discussion board about how he is a better fisherman than anyone and that fishing the spawn is bad. 2. 40 years ago he cant afford a flashlight when his lamp fell in lake...but he has a scale to measure 92 pounds of fish in one night (unless he kept all 92 pounds in his small boat and weighed them at market)? Well, since he's an accountant, I assume he's capable of doing basic addition... 2 Quote

In about 15 such nights, he will have done more fishing than I can manage in an average year. 1 Quote

Super User soflabasser Posted November 27, 2015 Super User Posted November 27, 2015 Thank you for posting this article,it was very good!I find it refreshing to read about a trophy bass fisherman that doesn't need expensive gear to catch a bass.Being persistent and having the right tactics will help a fisherman catch more big bass than just having fancy reels and rods. 1 Quote
FSUFish Posted November 27, 2015 Posted November 27, 2015 Pat fished around where I live. I didn't know him, but my brothers friend knew him well. Sadly he passed last year. Quote

Looking for the big one Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 Great guy, great fish. He made me feel almost bad that I live in GA and haven't caught a fish bigger than 4. Those south GA ponds and small lakes have some nice fish. Quote
Bobby Uhrig Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I don't fish buzzbaits- NEVER EVER Black on Black -never would I 3 Quote
DTack Posted November 30, 2015 Posted November 30, 2015 I believe that he actually caught that many... I have to applaud the guy for making the most of his personal situation! Sounds like he knew what he wanted to do and did it to the best of his ability! I've gotta say, I wouldn't stay satisfied doing it but boy does that all sound awesome. If you've ever had the privilege of fishing a loaded pond at night that doesn't get much pressure, has lots of "big" fish... You could see how this would be possible... If he has multiple bodies of water that he cycles through... and spends even 8 hours a night fishing for big ones.... Shoot I think he could do it. 3 Quote
Super User Choporoz Posted November 30, 2015 Super User Posted November 30, 2015 "His quart-sized Tupperware container “tackle box” contained about a dozen buzzbaits, all black." Can't help but admire the simplicity. 3 Quote

Can't help but admire the simplicity. I wish I could keep it that simple but I'd probably start hyperventilating on the way to the lake if I didn't have at least 100 pounds of gear and a dozen rods with me 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted December 2, 2015 Super User Posted December 2, 2015 It's hammer, hammer and stay hammering. The big gals will show up sooner or later. I'm saying every body of water has bigger bass. 16hrs of fishing he's into the second shift with black Buzz baits? After the feed at dusk they turn on again around 9/10pm. When the place settles down. 1 Quote
