So ive always wondered if the Megabass casting reels were all that much better than the daiwas they start off as. So i took the a local pond with  the MEgabass zonda rossa and a daiwa 105 both with 8lb seagur flurocarbon.  I had the zonda rigged on a megabass evolution big taper eisel and the daiwa on a megabass evoluzion c40 expada .

distance?

megabass i'd say 10-15 feet further than the daiwa, some casts just kind of blew my mind.  definitley noticed a major difference

backlash / general messing up of line.

massive difference and this is where the lightness of the spool on the megabass vs the daiwa was obvious.

retrieve?

megabass was better but not by a huge margin

flipping / pitching

not a massive megabass advantage here, but still better.

Yeah so i beleive the hype.  The daiwa 105 would be a 1998 BMW 328, and the megabass a 1999 BMW m3

You are paying for the cosmetics when you buy Megabass reels. The performance difference is minimal and mostly spool based.

Not fished on the same rods could be part of the casting distance difference. How about the same lure?

I own a zonda 68 rosso as well and have compared it to the daiwa 105 with the same line, bait and rod. There is a noticeable difference.
