Super User buzzed bait Posted November 20, 2015 Super User Posted November 20, 2015 Just saw on Dick's Sporting Goods site they have some 2500 Stradic FJs going for $99! I don't need one myself, but if you're in the market.... 1 Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 20, 2015 Super User Posted November 20, 2015 I have 2. One of the best spinning reels you could buy under $200 and for about $100 it is a no brainer. Quote

PatrickKnight Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 Anyone local to the Dayton Ohio area the Dicks at the Dayton mall still has two for this price in stock after I got mine. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted November 24, 2015 Super User Posted November 24, 2015 I've got to say I'm disappointed with DSG on this one. I got my reel in last night. The reel is new, but it didn't come with the box or warranty papers. Just got the reel, reel bag, schematics card, and those little metal disks. If you're going to sell something as an open box special, then advertise it as so. Quote
bholtzinger14 Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 Mine just showed it shipped yesterday. I wonder if mine will be the same. Quote

k3bass Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 that's pretty weak, not a deal breaker obviously, but not exactly as you expected to receive.... Say what? That's definitely a deal breaker in my opinion! You order a new reel from a place like DSG it should be unopened brand new in the box period! Quote

You order a new reel from a place like DSG it should be unopened brand new in the box period! definitely hear what you're saying. only problem is it was $99 on closeout so i'd assume you either live with it (no box or papers) or return it, but you can't expect that they'll have another in stock to ship to you. honestly, i'd either call their customer service or speak with someone at the store about it and see what they might do for you. Out of curiosity, did yours (and anyone here who ordered one) ship out of New Jersey? If they're all coming from different states, it could be that each store's display model was the deal - the ones they keep behind display glass. Still should have been listed as "open box" IMHO. It is still an incredible deal even so as these puppies are well over $99 on eBay. Quote

So I do believe you Sir, may be onto something with the Open Box theory. Either way, I probably would have made this purchase even if they did choose to advertise the fact that the reels we not a sealed box product. And if either of them are for some reason not up to snuff - we'll deal with that then. A-Jay 1 Quote
k3bass Posted November 24, 2015 Posted November 24, 2015 I've seen a lot of returned used beat up reels in the display case at my local dsg. Good deal or not if I ordered a new reel online from a major retailer and it wasn't new in an unopened box I would return it. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted November 24, 2015 Super User Posted November 24, 2015 I guess I don't see it as bug of a deal. You are getting a 200 reel for 100. Many people don't keep the box but it sounds like you have everything you needed anyways. It is still warrantied so if you run into problems you are fine there too. It is part of doing an online sale....if you don't like it then buy it in person, seems pretty simple. Quote

It is still an incredible deal even so as these puppies are well over $99 on eBay. I just checked my tracking. Mine shipped out of Wadsworth, Ohio. Was it a store model display? I don't know, but I'm doubting that it was. I've seen and even bought a few floor display models from DSG before, and most of them do show/look slightly used. However, the Stradic I received looks flawless. It still had the little paper "C" clip on the handle, as well as the clear rubber elbow cover as well that Shimano puts on all their reels from the factory. 2 Quote
