Hello everyone.  I hope all is going well.

I'm looking for your opinion on a change I am considering for some of my site.  I'm considering making tabs for some of the types of baits, jigs, jig heads to consolidate it some.

I have created a Custom Jig head tab(first tab top left of product list)  and if you click on it all of my jig heads will pop up under that category.  This simplifies everything in my opinion and allows the customer to more easily compare features and prices.  The other option is the way it has been where the jig heads have have been separated by style.  For example, Dredge, Big O, Supreme, Swim jig heads.  Depending on replies I might expand this into more areas.

Your thoughts?  Webpage, http://siebertoutdoors.com/

P.S.  All constructive replies will be entered into a drawing for some free jigs from now until tomorrow at 8am Central time.  I'll have my daughter draw a name for the winner tomorrow evening.

Thank you

Mike

-Tried to look it over while I pretend to work, but I can't.  Don't know if something has changed in my work's filters/screening, or if changes to your site have caused red flags by my IT.

-Took very quick tour with my phone.  I like the (new?) mobile layout.

-Honestly, I never had a whole lot of problems with your site.  Easily my biggest pet peeve had nothing to do with layout, functionality, etc.  It is the basic jig descriptions.  Every one read the same....this is an excellent all-around jig for brush and for fishing and weeds you can use it in the water.....maybe exaggerated a little...sorry

I know that jig styles and uses can be VERY subjective...and you don't want to tell someone NOT to buy a certain style that might work for them.  But, I think that novices like me need to have it explained in plain language how an arky is going to differ from a football once its bouncing around cover or rocks, etc.

-One other peeve that doesn't look different at first blush is that when I'm on a particular item, I no longer get the left pane that will navigate to different items.  I never liked the jumbled list in the horizontal green box above.  My personal preference is a left pane with either a vertical list, or perhaps even a drop down list that I can navigate to quickly.

I think you have a pretty good website, I think consolidating/stream lining the website is a great idea.

My only suggestions would be...

1.  Taking the vertical tabs on the left hand side to horizontal on the top of the page.

2. And having a weekly or bi-weekly special on the front page.  Kinda like what Tackle Warehouse does with their "Daily Special".

I think you guys are doing a great job, business ownership is not easy.  Keep up the good work!

The opening page has the same menu duplicated in the horizontal shaded section and the left vertical section.

Maybe leave the horizontal section for the guys who know what they want and will look for it by name, and change the left side vertical menu to a breakdown of the jigs by category/use instead of by your product names?  This way, new visitors who are looking for a skipping jig or a football jig will know where to find the selection without having to keep trying the different names until they find it.

Also, the suggested specific use or jig's strong points might be farther up in the description.  This might also help the descriptions from sounding so similar when one first starts reading them.

Tight lines,

Bob

Although a bass novice and zero website experience, I have three observations:

1. On left column, font color is too close a match for background making reading a little tough for these, eh, aged...I mean more seasoned eyes.

2. I would add links for soecific presentations

3. The link box under the big jig has same hyperlinks as left column. Under the jig seems to be prime realestate, i would use that more effectively, like specials or drawing attention to specific presentations etc.....

My two cents......

I think it could be condensed slightly. Another slight adjustment is the color of the words in the tab section right under the picture.

On the other hand I just learned where everything is, so no changes wouldn't make me angry at all.

I'm piggy-backing off of Mr. Bob because I had the same thought above when I've been on your website in the past.  I find I have to look through every jig name to find what I'm looking for (not painful, you have some beautiful jigs!).  But for example, I'm interested in a finesse football jig, say 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 ounce.  I see "Grid Iron Jig" and think that must be it.  Hmmmm, nope they start at 3/8 ounce.  OK, back to home page. How about "finesse jig"?  Nope, not an available selection.  Poke around some more and find "Football jig" under "Supreme Jigs" and see a 1/4 ounce light wire.  Now we are getting somewhere!  Then next to it I see "Finesse Jig" and there are 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 ounce sizes.  Not football heads, but these are a possibility.  Hey wait, what are these Sway Jig thing-a-ma-jiggies?  Wow, they have a football head!  With a skirt they start at 1/4 ounce, but without a skirt I can also get 1/8 and 3/16 ounce. I wonder if Mr. Siebert would put a skirt on those?

Having the jigs organized by category would make browsing your site easier.  Just my .02 cents.....

The navigation is a tad bit convoluted. I can hardly read the "scroll over" links in the center. People have been conditioned to the easy menus. I know I have.

My preference is :

>Menu item(Parent)

    >sub menu item(child)

          >sub menu item(child)

>Jigs

    >arkie head

        >hook/weight size

    >football

    >Swing

    >whatever other you have

Just an example. People are spoiled, and the science of what these big companies have done with their item menus is meant to find the product fast and hurry up and buy it. But the menu does serve a purpose for the person, to NOT have to look through 62 pictures of types of "jigs" to find what they are looking for.

I'm not knocking your site at all, just offering some insight...

Convenience is the key. Just think about how you shop online...If you are looking for a "flux capacitor"...if you type that in search, it might come up with many flux capacitors, and many items that are related to it, and you have to scroll through....pages...ah, forget it let's go to site "B" and see if they have it.

The pictures on your site are terrific! I have ordered products from you, and have been satisfied with the quality.

Just another idea...reviews and ratings...these are important, I like both. I wish TW had a ratings along with their reviews. Like amazon or newegg.

Sometimes a site update or overhaul can do wonders. Good luck.

You could save an overwhelming amount of space if you went /w a completly revamped tool bar. A horizontal tool bar below a logo or picture could be condensed down into  something like "jigs" "hardbaits" "plastics" "jig kits" etc. Just make each option a roll over to a drop down. i.e roll over Jigs and a drop down menu appears /w your different jig types. you'll be able to get rid of the 50 or so products on your home page and condense them down into specific areas.

Although other people have said some of this, here are my thoughts. Just browsing your old website earlier today and I literally thought, "he would benefit from a new website," so it's fresh in my mind.

-All the different jig types are slightly confusing and need clarification. Like Choporoz said, I'd love to see a detailed description of each one. You offer so many, it's hard to tell which ones are for which purposes.

-Also, I'd like to see main and sub categorization. So a category for "jigs" would have subcategories for "football jigs," "casting jigs," "swim jigs," "flipping jigs," etc. It's a lot easier to find what you're looking for that way.

-Lastly, I know you've worked on this before, but I'd love more blown-up color options that are bigger and easier to see.

Oh, and finally: you asked for criticism and you got it. But I just got my first SO jigs in a trade with a friend today, and boy are they awesome. You have a new fan!

Hey Mike,

My feedback is a rehash of a few items above.

The number of product option buttons you have can be a bit overwhelming.  I agree with the feedback above to see if you could consolidate to fewer options -- jigs, jig parts, terminal tackle, soft plastics, etc.  See if you can reduce some redundancy to make it a bit less cluttered.  As an example, I see you have a button for each jig head type, but then the "tackle making" button also contains all those jig heads (plus some other stuff).  Can you remove the five differnet jig head buttons and the skirt button and have all that under "tackle making"?

The other feedback above which rang true to me was around the jig descriptions.  I also struggle understanding the differences between the different lines of jigs.  I get the head shape differences, but determining what's different between your several different varieties of brush jigs, for example, can be a bit tough.  Perhaps you can combine this wiht the first feedback to have one product button for jigs, and hitting that button takes you to your main jig page where you can put some info to more clearly differentiate between the different series.

Just some constructive criticism :)
