5fishlimit Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 Disclosure: I do not work for, or represent, the organization where this information is coming from. I sell a software solution geared towards non-profits, and while doing some research I found this information, and thought it might be interesting to some within this forum. The organization (American Sportfishing Association) is legitimate, and uses actual facts and figures for their findings. Super User buzzed bait Posted November 19, 2015 Super User Posted November 19, 2015 good stuff. i wonder though why they only chose those 12 states (CO, FL, GA, ME, MI, MN, MS, MT, NH, NY, UT, and WI). Just looking at that list, they mostly look like high volume for tourist fisheries which i would assume might tilt the data a bit.... Fly fishing in CO, MT and UT. Smallmouth in MI, MC, NH, NY and WI. Largemouth in GA and FL. And well everything in Florida.... 1 Quote

Ontario tributaries for steelhead, Catskills and Adirondacks for fly fishing/remote pond fishing, and Long Island for inshore fishing. I remember seeing the numbers for the Lake Ontario segment and it was very impressive. Tight lines, Bob 1 Quote

While it doesn't indicate a specific reason I would assume that the information wasn't available for all 50 states, or perhaps the data was incomplete from those states not listed. 1 Quote

Expressing sarcasm via the printed word is a dicey proposition, at best. At least we now know you're a wise guy, and NOT an arsehole. LOL Welcome aboard. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted November 24, 2015 Super User Posted November 24, 2015 As an ASA member we get tons of metrics for the industry. The "churn" rate in Florida is due to the fact that we have a large segment of the fishing population that transistions in and out of the state as tourist. What is interesting is the long-term license holders, I remember seeing a statistic on those who renew regullarly, and it seems like only a small, very small percentage renew over a 5 year period. It goes to show that very few anglers are "hard core", lol! 1 Quote
