Hey on a somewhat related topic, can anyone find the eggnog receipt that was running around last year? The one that you made up the eggnog and added bourbon then let it set in the fridge for a couple... weeks before you drank it?

I believe Crown Royal made a maple syrup flavored whisky at one point.  It was completely un drinkable and disgusting, but it would have been the perfect breakfast condiment for anyone who believes breakfast is the most important meal of the day and that sobriety is total ***.  If you've ever thought to yourself, "I love pancakes, but somehow they just aren't getting me drunk." this is the liquor for you.

Had a sample of it at a bar one time and thought "this is disgusting.... now I want pancakes"

seriously undrinkable, but it's an alcoholic's answer for breakfast...

If you like Laphroaig, and get an extra couple of bucks, Lagavulin 16 will be your new favorite whisky.  If you like Laphroaig, and don't get an extra couple of bucks, Johnny Walker Double Black is actually really good.

I have a bottle of 10 year Laphroaig and it's pretty good.  I really like Double Black a lot too.   As far all the other flavored stuff discussed I'm not big on any of that stuff.

I have dabbled into Japanese whiskey a bit.  Not my style though.  The oldest I have had is ***** Taketsuru 21yr.  Have also had the 12/17/Harmony of Hibiki and Hakutsuru 12/17 and ***** coffee grain/from the barrel.

Got my bottle of Whistle Pig, the standard 10 yr. it's very good!! Jeff, it's very much like you described. I think it needs a little air time, only a couple pours in but have a feeling by the end of the bottle I'm going to want another!!

@quanjig - it really is good.  I generally like most decent ryes, but I'll also use them to make Sazaracs.  Whistle Pig, is just too good to mix.

@dave - Dickel isn't a bad whisky for the price.  Also inexpensive, have you tried Wild Turkey 101 or any of the higher proof stuff from Beam?  There are some surprisingly good bourbons out there for under $25/bottle.

@MarkH024 - I've had a few, but none that have really been to my taste in Scotch.  It seems most Japanese "Scotches" (at least that I've encountered) have been far more in line with Highland/Lowland Scotches and not so much with the Islays.  I want some smoke, damnit!

Redline, you got Yamazaki 50 year by chance? :P

On a serious note, anyone dabbled with Japanese scotch? @00 mod Jeff?

Oh and no, I don't have the Yamazaki 50...but I do have a bottle of Pal-Marie et Fils 58 Year Grand Champagne Cognac I picked up a few years back.  Someday I may even drink it!

mmmm, bourbon. As my handle would imply, I do enjoy an adult beverage or "three" on occasion.

I generally drink Beam Black when I am at my local bar and have a hankerin' for whiskey, sometimes with ginger ale. My liquor cabinet doesn't stay as stocked as it used to, but Evan Williams Single Barrel has been a regular. If I can get it, I'd much rather have Wiser's Very Old (18yr)... Unfortunately for me, they don't sell it in Delaware. A buddy was bringing some back from Idaho about every other trip when he was doing a job out there, and got me hooked. It's not worth me moving to a colder climate, but it's close.

A few of the restaurants down at the beach have very good selections of whiskeys, but since I know it, Maker's Mark is generally a good fit with my dinner.

A good drink that I make sometimes is Jim beam apple mixed with fireball. I was skeptical when first told about it but you put it on ice it's actually really good. I also like wild turkey honey on ice.

Of  the whiskeys bourbon is my least favorite. I prefer a scotch or Irish whiskey the Canadians do  decent job as well. Most recently it was black velvet in my glass. Before that was Jamison. In not  picky though.

Being from and living in Kentucky, bourbon is all I drink!  I currently have open bottles of Larceny, Buffalo Trace, Jefferson's Reserve, W.L. Weller Special Reserve, Old Forester, and Old Forester Signature.  I never mix it, and no chasers!  I drink it neat, or one ice cube only!

You need to make the drive to Total Wine.  It's an alcoholic's dream come true. The selection rocks and they're surprisingly affordable.

hmmm. A drive to cherry hill to spend $90 on a fifth of whisky... maybe, if that's as close as I can get it. I paid $50 something the last time I got it, but it has been a couple of years

Unfortunately they don't carry (and can't get shipped to DE, according to the site) Wiser's 18 year :stupid:

I never thought I'd like flavored whiskey but,  I really like Crown Royal Apple.  An incredibly strong apple smell makes it crisp and flavorful.
