This past spring I purchased a new Curado. I was really impressed with it for the first couple outings, then all of a sudden it started making a horrible noise on the cast, seemed like it happened when the brakes kicked in at the end of the cast. The weird thing is, it happens on and off, but happens more than not. I even took it apart and super tuned it and it didn't fix it. Is this fixable or is it just typical Shimano junk?

Is it a loud squealing from the brakes?  No problem.  A lot of reels will do it.  Wipe a very, very light film of oil on the brake drum.

It is typical Shimano junk.   Please send it to me and if you buy anymore junk, send it to me as well.  Go forth, and by yourself a BPS, Plueger, Revo, Lews clone and never have any problems again.   I'd tell you how to fix the junk you've got, which requires reading the instructions, but would rather own it.

Yeah, screaming from the brakes. I have never had a reel do this. It only took 2 replies for a Shimano fanboy to come out, lol. Relax, I was just poking some fun.

Also, my Shimano junk didn't have instructions in the box upon purchasing.

Truth be told, I don't own a Shimano bait caster.  But I do remember a big discussion about the need to lube the brakes regularly.  Anyway, one or another of my Lews reels will do it once in a great while.  Most times, it goes away on its own.  Otherwise, a quick wipe of the brake drum with a Q-tip with a tiny bit of oil on it will fix it right up.

I'm neither a Shimano fanboy or hater.  I don't have a Shimano bait caster, but I have at least four of their spinning reels, and two bicycles outfitted with their components.  :)

It still performs great, but that noise can get quite annoying. I'll try some oil. Thanks

I have 9 Curado I's and have only experienced this in one of them so far after pretty heavy use. All I did was oil the break drum and it hasn't happened since.

Oiling the brake drum has become a routine part of my "clean 'n' lube" ritual. It just takes a tiny drop of oil on a cotton swab wiped around the inside of the brake drum. I usually do it about twice a season on my reels.

Does the same go for rotors? My T3 does this occasionally ever since I installed an SV spool. Doesn't seem to affect performance but can be irritating.

Rotor shouldn't be touching the magnet

Edit* Fixed to shouldn't

maybe the ends of the spool shaft just need oil

My 1016s used to squeal every now and then. I polished the spool tips snd the gold tabs they contact. Problem solved

Oh lord.. Typical Shimano Junk? Surely you are just being flamboyant here.. Yes, the reel exceeds your capabilities for casting. Better trade it off for a 202... Oil the drum.. It happens, oil the drum.

Right on, brother.

Did you do that to the ballistic you sent me?

Nope. It's really simple to do though.
