UKCATSBASSER Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I know I'm asking a lot for one Rod. wanting to throw smaller cranks, mcsticks, vision 110's and 1.5 squarebills. I have a MH crankbait Rod but the lighter bandits don't do so well. I also have a 6'6" M fast St croix premier that use for topwater, jerkbaits, and target spinnerbaits. Wondering if this would work for the smaller cranks? Open to replacing the premier with something else to handle all of the above. Any ideas? Quote
tholmes Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Rig up the Premier and try it. I would think that it would be up to the task, but you won't know for sure until you try. Personally, I would prefer a moderate action over the fast for treble hook baits, but the fast action may be alright. Tom Quote
Cgrinder Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 XX Flat Side Special. The M Premier will probably work but then you wouldn't have to buy a new rod, and that's no fun. 1 Quote
KevO Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I ordered a St Croix avid X 7' MF last week, and received the 7' MM. I almost kept it for exactly what you are looking for. Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted November 17, 2015 Super User Posted November 17, 2015 You can get the premier to work for you. Just make sure to loosen your drag up when throwing treble hook baits with it. It won't be perfect, but it should be able to handle everything you listed. Quote
68camaro Posted November 19, 2015 Posted November 19, 2015 CS 684CB I have the 634CB, use it for jerkbaits and topwaters, love it, great rod. I got shorter size since I fish from shore, alot of trees and brush to watch backswing on. Quote
Super User Spankey Posted November 20, 2015 Super User Posted November 20, 2015 We might be throwing very similar baits. The 6'6" Premier series crankbait rod med. with moderate tip is one of my favorite rods. Lure weight matches most of what I throw. Price is not too bad considering some of current rod prices. You'll have to touch a bunch of rods for yourself to get the feel you like. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted November 20, 2015 Super User Posted November 20, 2015 I love my Avid 66MF for those baits so I think your Premier would work well. Quote
Jaw1 Posted November 20, 2015 Posted November 20, 2015 I use a duckett micro for my bandit duties and believe it would be useful for some Topwater applications but not sure about the jerkbaits Quote
UKCATSBASSER Posted November 20, 2015 Author Posted November 20, 2015 Currently looking at a levante flat side special. Going to keep my premier as well. Will have to expirment to see what I look each Rod the best for. 1 Quote

Super User Spankey Posted November 21, 2015 Super User Posted November 21, 2015 Rods are a crazy thing to BS about because everyone is looking for something a bit different for it to do. You can get a real good idea in the shop for the feel and action. But, on the boat and in the water is a different situation. Rods are endless. Quote
kschultz76 Posted November 21, 2015 Posted November 21, 2015 MB Orochi XX Jerkbait Special or Flatside Special, or the Levante equivalents. Also look at the Kistler KLX Crank Rip Twitch models I think the 6'9" MH would work. Quote
