Spinnerbait Rod

I personally use a Dobyns Savvy 734c which some people say is a bit too heavy... I really like it and rarely miss fish. I was wondering what you guys use for spinnerbaits?

Nothing wrong with a Savvy for spinnerbaits. I use a No. 8 Blackout. Sensitivity isn't needed for moving baits so the rod doesn't really matter too much.

My favorite spinnerbait rod is my st.croix premier 7' medium power fast action.

I'm not a fan of the rest of the premier line, but that rod is awesome for spinnerbaits!

I purchased a GLX 783C this Spring for spinnerbaits, chatterbaits and swim jigs as well.  Love that rod.  It is also a GREAT all around rod.  I've thrown 1/2 rattle traps, light t-rigs, jigs on it as well in a pinch.

I use a Abu Garcia vendetta, 6'9" MH fast. It rated for 1/4 to 1 oz.

Works well with other presentations also,( square bills, traps, chatter/buzz-baits, swim jigs, etc.)

Shorter rod much better for me in close quarter casting.

I would like to add, as others have said, a 3 power is probably better than a 4 power for spinnerbaits. But it depends on how heavy the spinnerbaits you use are. 3/8-1/2oz I'd go 3 power. 3/4-1oz I'd go 4 power.

I use a MH for just about anything moving; squarebills, traps, swim jigs, chatterbaits, etc, and spinnerbaits are no exception. Rod choice is less because of preference and more for the fact that I don't have very many

I use a 7' 2" mh/f Phenix M1 for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits.

I originally bought it thinking I'd use it for a second plastics rod but found it was too light for my liking, even tho it was plenty sensative enough.

That's what I get for buying a rod without handling it first, but it's all good.

Sounds like a codename for this company and its products may be needed.

I would recommend "unlucky number awesome sport prophecy dark", but that would be absurd...

It would be easier to just comply with the rules. This company has violated those rules to promote their products and Glenn has rightly prohibited discussion of any rods by this company. If you can't respect the rules then I would suggest going elsewhere.

For the OP I use a 7' MH-F for spinnerbaits most of the time.

There are some who like a heavier power and a slower action for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits. I have tried that but prefer a faster action. I occasionally use a 6' 8" M- XF for lighter blade baits with good success. I think it is really a matter of personal choice.

I use a 7'1" MH/R tatula for spinnerbaits, blade baits, swim jigs, vibes, and squarebills. It fishes mod fast and has loads of backbone and plenty of sensitivity.

I like a mod-fast action because it is more forgiving with resistance baits, gives better casting distance, and allows for reeling hook sets because it keeps the fish pinned. If I attempt a normal hook set, more often than not it pulls the bait away, so I like a stiff, powerful rod with a good bend since I still need a lot of backbone to drive the hook home, though, so a soft, moderate action cranking rod is out of the question.

I use a 733 or a 704 for mine. Mostly the 704, as the 733 is for buzzbaits mostly.

About 5-6 years ago BPS offered a VanDam 7' spinnerbait rod with full cork handle and he really does know what he is doing, if he in fact he had a hand in designing the rod, because it is one incredible spinnerbait rod and as I recall was only $100.   It is just really a joy with which to cast all day.

Stick with what you have.  I couldn't disagree more with that rod being "too heavy".  I want control once a fish is hooked, the 734c Savvy has a great action as far as when it shuts off for you.  

My personal favorite rod lately for a spinnerbait is the Champion 734c, although I do have just as much confidence in the dx744 Extreme.  

Here's a picture where two of our larger fish 8.5lb big fish and another in the 5.5lb range were caught on the 734c Champion with 15lb mono.  The other two pictured were caught with a 765cb glass Champion and 70lb daiwa braid.  There is more than one way to do things, I stick with the 734c and I just don't think you should have any reason to doubt yourself or change if it is working for you.  Keep catching em.

I use a 6'6" MH/F and 6' MH/F for my spinnerbaits. I fish them around cover a lot, and the shorter length gives me more accuracy in my casting.
