Depending on cover skin hooking works really good in open water the jig itself runs true then that little offset on the softbait makes that run kinda sideways so it looks wierd and makes diff noises i assume lol

I use Bass Assassin's 5" Die Dapper or Rage Tail's CutR worm.

With the 5" length I feel it gets the action deaden by the hook.

I like the Cut R worm on a swim jig, another one that has done well for me was using the back half of a Gambler Burner Worm .
