Dypsis Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I have been using 12lb sniper and have never had any issues, just curious as to what other people like and more importantly why you like it over other brands. For this rod I will mostly throw baits 1/4-3/8oz. Mostly small traps and square bills. Thanks. Matt Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted November 14, 2015 Super User Posted November 14, 2015 For traps & especially square bills, I like to use heavier line - 17 or 20 lb. Berkley Iron Silk is a great trap & square bill line. It can be a little springy, so I coat it with line treatment and take it easy the first few casts of the day, until it gets wet and stretched out and then it works great. For a few years, when Berkley benched Iron Silk, they made an "armored" Trilene that was essentially the same thing. Suffix Siege has worked ok for me too. I don't think that this is an area where it is necessary to go hyper expensive on line. One more thing - I stay away from Berkley "Big Game". I've had breaking issues with that Berkley brand and I won't touch it any more. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I like CXX, it's strong, low stretch and not as prone to weakening after backlashes like FC is. Quote
Grantman83 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Invizx 15lb. Has some forgiving stretch, sensitivity and has a thinner diameter so I can get away with heavier line. 1 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted November 14, 2015 Super User Posted November 14, 2015 Sunline reaction 12lb Small diameter, abrasion resistent, good stretch, and low memory that casts a mile. Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted November 14, 2015 Global Moderator Posted November 14, 2015 I like Sniper on my jig and plastic's combo because of the minimal stretch compared to what I was useing, it's sensitivity and manageability. I don't see an advantage to useing it for moving baits. For those I use Yo Zuri. Mike 1 Quote
Hogsticker Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 Sunline Reaction, Sniper, and Assassin all make good cranking lines if you prefer fluorocarbon. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted November 15, 2015 I fish small squarebills on 10lb Big Game, traps on 15lb. Never have seen a reason to spend the extra money on flouro for cranking. Quote
Dypsis Posted November 15, 2015 Author Posted November 15, 2015 Thanks for all the responses. I was looking at the Sunline reaction line - certainly something to think about. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted November 15, 2015 Super User Posted November 15, 2015 I don't crank a ton but I used 10-12 lb Berkley fluoro when I had fluro on my cranking rods. I went back to mono mostly to give me more versatility in my cranking rod (so I could use it for topwater baits) and haven't suffered from this line "downgrade". Quote
