shaggydog Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 OK, braid or mono line for crankbaits? Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 14, 2015 Super User Posted November 14, 2015 I fish almost all braid on everything but use leaders/topshot of either mono or FC depending on what I'm doing. Quote
68camaro Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I use mono for cranks, since I am still new most everything I read said mono. Quote
Hogsticker Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Lots of variables to consider here! Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted November 14, 2015 Global Moderator Posted November 14, 2015 mono or copoly. Only reason I might use braid is if you were fishing lots of grass. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 14, 2015 Super User Posted November 14, 2015 David Fritts, Mark Davis, & Paul Elias all use 12# mono...answers it for me! Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted November 15, 2015 Super User Posted November 15, 2015 Mono, co-polymer or fluorocarbon for me. I don't use a leader on braid. I find braid has a greater tendency to foul the hooks. Also I have a tendency to keep drag settings higher than suggested. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 15, 2015 Super User Posted November 15, 2015 There's some pretty valid reasons to use braid, and/or braid with a leader, like small diameter, deeper dives, better sensitivity, etc. it's not my preference over flouro or a strong copolymer, though. Pay attention to the action, you definitely want to step it down and set the drag a little on the soft side with braid, if you want to try it. Quote
GPtimes2 Posted November 15, 2015 Posted November 15, 2015 The thought is, don't rip the treble hooks out of the fishes mouth. So you can use mono, witch will stretch, or a flimsy rod and stiffer line. Or some combination of the two. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 16, 2015 Super User Posted November 16, 2015 Mono. It is easier to break when you hang up the bait and can't get it loose. Quote
desmobob Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Mono (Yo-Zuri Hybrid). Tight lines, Bob Quote
Super User MickD Posted November 17, 2015 Super User Posted November 17, 2015 Mono or hybrid. Not FC, too much variation in line quality and ease of casting. Braid casts better than FC, not as well as Mono IMHO. Mono and hybrids have the stretch that is good for cranks. For spinnerbaits I use a good quality braid so I can snap the lure off the weeds better, and also like the solid feel of the strikes. But some braids are better than others, I'd stick with Power Pro or Suffix. Quote
JigMe Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 I use different size braided line with mono backing for all my setups. Personally, I think Braided line cast better than mono. To overcome the issue that Braided line floats which might impact the depth of some lures. I will upsize the hooks from 4 to 2, and I haven’t experience any changes in the action of the lure. Secondly, Braided line will last me years which mono I would need to re-spool at least twice a year. That's something you might want to consider as well. Quote
