Carterjig68 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 Are BPS extreme reels any good? Not the most recent generation but the one before it. Found one for cheap and may pair it with a Dobyns savvy. Have yo guys had any experience with it? Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 The pq is so well proven and affordable I see no reason to mess with the lesser models. 3 Quote

I have a couple of the older Extremes. They still get used occasionally, but compared to the PQs they are nowhere close to the same quality. 1 Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 14, 2015 Super User Posted November 14, 2015 I have 3 of them from around 2012. I've had no issues out of them. Right now they are just sitting in my spare reel box. But up until last year they got used often without any problems. I'd fish them again if I needed a back up reel for my others. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I am Shimano fan, but three years ago I picked up a PQ on sale out of curiosity and it is now my frogging reel. Amazingly well built little reel and easy to strip down and clean. Quote
Sonik Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 I like it. I use it on a BPS Tourney Special for my bank fishing combo. Works well. I cleaned and lubed mine this spring for the first time and it was smooth all year. 1 Quote
cottny27 Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 The green Extremes from a couple yrs back? I have no problems with mine and they are very small and compact. Wouldn't pay the retail $89 for one though. Quote
cottny27 Posted November 16, 2015 Posted November 16, 2015 I prefer to use this Extreme it's feather light and fun to fish with: http://answers.basspro.com/answers/2010/product/1302070545221/bass-pro-shops-bass-pro-shops-extreme-light-baitcast-reel-questions-answers/questions.htm?cm_ven=bazaarvoice&cm_cat=QA_PSVP&cm_pla=1302070545221&cm_ite=image_link Quote
Sonik Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 Just as a follow up,I agree on the PQ even though I have the previous gen Extreme. Last Christmas they were $50 I think. That's less than the current clearance price of the old Extreme. But if you can't wait, it's an ok reel. I run mine loose and you can definitely feel it. But so far it hasn't flown apart and put my eye out, exploded and took my hands off, or sucked in and cut off any other appendages .... yet. Quote
cottny27 Posted November 17, 2015 Posted November 17, 2015 $50 is a steal for the Extreme! BPS needs to cut the fat on the PQ and offer it again with Duralumin shaft and drive gear. Maybe add the Carbonlite handle and there you have a 6.5oz reel. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted November 18, 2015 Super User Posted November 18, 2015 How far back are you talking? I had two I bought back in '03. The first one was a regular purchase, and the second one was an exchange for the first one. Ended up taking the second one back and getting an Abu 5600C3. Quote
cottny27 Posted November 18, 2015 Posted November 18, 2015 I am assuming he means the green reels that came out in about 2011 or so. Quote
