Sensitivity Of Rodgeeks Carbon 4 Vs. St. Croix Sciv

I know these blanks are supposed to be more or less the same thing. However, is the sensitivity of the carbon 4 on par with the sciv? Really thinking about building on the 7'3 HF carbon 4 for heavier baits, but mostly for 3/4 oz football jigs.

Sensitivity is a personal interpretation. Their blanks are reasonably priced and good quality. Well worth going out on the limb to see for yourself.

First.. The question needs to be answered as this.. The ST Croix blanks are made in the US at the ST Croix Factory. Is the Carbon 4 actually a SCiV? Mandrels are one thing, but design and materials are another.. 

 

Just do your homework.

I have no personal experience with either, but I know SC3 and SC5 are very fine, sensitive blanks based on personal experience.  I submit that the differences between Rodgeeks and SC4  if any will be minor, and the best thing you can do for max sensitivity is to use the lightest, smallest, running guides that you can.

I felt a couple and thought they felt good. They offer some interesting actions as well.

Just to quantify, I have a couple 3 builds and a couple 5 blanks I'm waiting to be built. Bottom line they felt good. Even the carbon 2's felt good.

five year warranty ?? i would rather buy a SCIV and have a lifetime warranty through St. Croix , service is almost always worth the extra price ....

If it doesn't break when I static test it, I'm never gonna need the warranty, no matter how long it is. I think more companies are realizing that and shortening their warranties. Wouldn't bother me if it was one year or even less.

If you bought a RodGeeks in dark blue and did a side by side comparison, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference without looking at the labels. Plus,the paint job is better on the RodGeeks. Or, you can get it in just a matte clear if color isn't your thing.

I like those blanks enough I'd be willing to pay the extra for their Eternity line if I could get raw blanks. Really do not like that blue finish.

The only reason I have several LTB rods is I got all them for about half price.

My favorites were the old matte SCIII and the old matte RX7. The TiCh is also nice.

i absolutely love my SCIV Big Nasty , but i really didn't like the cobalt blue finish so i spent 1 1/2 hours to very carefully Citri-Strip the entire blank (except for a 1/2'' x 1/2'' patch that hides under the EVA buttt cap) down to the natural graphite .

 so yeah , i'm also a huge fan of raw graphite !!!

 NFC blanks are for the most part out of my price range. Doesn't mean I wouldn't build one for somebody else, just not for myself.

 

I'm very happy with the rods I've built on Immortal blanks, and will be building more of those for sure. Based on my experiences with them, I'd really like to try an Etermity blank, but NOT a blue one. HINT!

I've built a couple. Shook and bent many many. Are they nice? Yes. Worth the price? Not even close. There are better blanks for less money out there.

The selection is somewhat limited as well. St Croix, Rainshadow, MHX have robust lines.

As to the rod geeks warranty. I had a clients 10 year old snap the tip off a C473 mhxs swinging a 4 pounder. I called and told them the whole story and they still shipped me a replacement no questions asked. Kind of hard to beat that.

Thank you for the support on the Immortals! They truly have been a great blank for us. You need to try an Eternity2! There hasn't been any movement on introducing a new color, but that shouldn't hold you back! There will be a review on both the RainShadow Eternity2 and the Immortal soon from one of the MOD's here on BR. 

 

The NFC is a wonderful blank, yes expensive, but very nice. We have had great success with these as well. They are made in the USA and GEN 2 of Gary Loomis!

No Thank you customer service isn't there?? How so? I don't think we have had a complaint cross our desks yet. Did you call them directly and not get good results?

Understood on the pricing level. They are very nice.. Better blanks for less money.. That is up to the user unfortunately. Just depends on what your looking for.
