grayAG Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I just picked up an All Star SBR2 6'8" MH Zell Rowland spinnerbait rod at a yard sale for $20. It has "Made in USA" under the All Star logo.I've seen different things from people about whether or not these were the better quality ones made in Houston. I just wanted to ask for the story/age on this rod. Thanks Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted November 7, 2015 Super User Posted November 7, 2015 Its the best of the all stars ..no clue of age though Quote
zell_pop1 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I like the ones that say IM10X, really good rods. Quote
rangerjockey Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I have 2 Houston made Allstars, A bcm6 and a Zell Rowland TWS.. Both say Houston TX. under the logo. They have a charcoal colored blank with maroon wraps. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted November 7, 2015 Super User Posted November 7, 2015 I thought those were ok rods. The issue with them that I had was over time the reel seat stripped out and wouldn't hold the reel tight any more - even using shims and stuff. They are in my pile of retired rods now. Years ago, when Shakespeare acquired the company, they wouldn't honor the warranty any more. A couple of the rods that I bought through Cabelas, Cabelas made them honor their warranty, but I had to jump through hoops and find receipts and so forth. I honestly don't remember where I bought most of them. I do know that after they were acquired by Shakespeare, the store I buy quite a bit of stuff from wouldn't deal with them any more. I think that All Star is owned by the parent company of Berkley now, but I'm not sure. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted November 7, 2015 Super User Posted November 7, 2015 I picked up a 6' Allstar spinning rod on clearance a while back. I'm going to try it soon. Most say there good rods. Quote
grayAG Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 This one has the charcoal blank with maroon wraps, but doesn't say Houston. Just wasn't sure where this one fit in. Quote
BobP Posted November 8, 2015 Posted November 8, 2015 I've owned an All Star TWS Zell Roland IM10 rod for 10+ years. Good rod. $20 is a great price! Quote
dave Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 I've got an IM10X Magnum Worm II, decent rod. I think they were in the $100 range new. Quote
