I have the quantum smoke  Bait caster as well as a couple of their smoke spinning reels.   all of them are real nice and smooth.  the bait-caster does not get the distance of some of my others But is still very nice.  for the 150-200$ range I think they are about as nice as everything else.

The spinning reels I really licked when i bought them, But i did have an issue crop up this fall where it seems like the reverse berring is slipping and the handle starts spinning backwards when i get a snags or a good size pike hits it.

I have an exo on my cranking rod, it serves it purpose quite well. I have only had it for half a season, but it is very smooth. The brakes are not quite as forgiving as magnetic, but work good once you get them dialed in.

I've had good service from the quantum spinning reels from Wal-Mart in the beginning.

Quantam?  would you like the email address of the factory in china that makes them and the bass pro shop reels?  they also sell the exact same reel for $30 if you have a smoke.

pflueger , quantam , bass pro shops, and browning reels are all made in the same factory in china FYI.

Lews sucks , they look cool but they don't last and cast for diddily .

Shimano makes the best spinning reels, but their bait casters are the pits , the currado ? what a POS

Daiwa, the best hands down, period , they willl outcast any other reel on the market period.

Megabass , they are just soupoed up lighter Daiwas, and i love them. especially the bigger LIN series for swimbaits and alabama rigs

Abu Garcia is a close second place behind  daiwa.

What price range are you looking at?  Have several, well more then several. As of right now, I have the TourMG which is nice, a collection of EXO's (3 300's, 3 200's, and 5 100's as well as 1 25 spinning.).  Have 1 Kenetic (sold one) and 2 Accurists (older model), as well as 5 Smoke 150's.   As you can tell I have a few.  Only fish 3 baitcasting reels (Quantum, *** *** and C's, and the 4 older Carbonlites I have from BPS).  As of right now my Kenetic and Accurists are semi-retired due to upgrades.  None of the Quantums have ever given me any issues.  So although they are looked down by others who would choose to put them down and say they are garbage (have seen my buddies Diawa's and Shimano's end up in the shop for several performance issues) all while my Quantums keep going.  They have a bad rap if you don't get into the PT series reels.  I wouldn't fish anything under the Accurist.  If you have an honest question about them shoot me a personal message and I'll give you a straight answer about whatever you're wondering about Quantum's.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, but this response does not answer the OP or even offer anything that resembles useful information.

Nice story though.

To the OP - I like the reel below quite a bit.

I'm not sure these days, I used a half dozen Quantum spinning & baitcasters when they were newly branded.. (mid 80's) I have no complaint's.

I have three of the 1310 mg's . They are old but still work great .

I built one, in a similar manner to how I build pre-UC Ambassadeurs, for my wife. It is what she is learning on.

This one is on a graphite frame, but I'm thinking of putting it on a metal frame I have since she's getting so into fishing.

I chose the 1310 because I found it incredibly hard to backlash. More magnets than standard, I think.

She's pretty proud of it, and it works well for her. It is therefore, "best"!

Josh

You have some wrong information here. Pflueger, ABU, BPS, LEWS, Browning made by pure fishing and are iterations of Doyo reels in Korea with factories in China and Korea. In theory, someone can take apart a lews, bps pq and a ABU sts, throw all the parts in the middle and mix up and still put all 3 reels back together (keeping the drag stacks together that is). ABU round reels still made in Sweden. Quantums are not doyo however not sure if that are made by a big company or if Zebco still designs. Shimano and Daiwa are still independent companies.

This is why any low-profile reels I get will be Shimano.

I love my Abu Garcia round reels (not S, which are made in China.) I can't get behind any of these Chinese reels, though, Abu's included.

If they're all the same reel, why bother with brands? It's all marketing hype. I go with reels with solid reputations, not just names, no matter the name's reputation. You have to look at the guts of the thing to judge quality. The Ambassadeur line, for example, is largely unchanged since the early-'80s with the *** of the Ultra Cast desige, and before that, since its ***.

Shimano looks like the same basic Lew Childress design from back then, too, with some streamlining and modern improvements.

It's too easy to buy crap today under the guise of a respected name. We are supposed to stay away from politics here. It is not politics to state manfacturing realities: Chinese working conditions are generally deplorable, and borders on slave labor. Slaves, also generally speaking, don't take pride in what they build. Therefore, while crap can be built in any country, it's more likely to be built in the country employing borderline slave labor.

Not all Quantum is made in China. The Smoke for example is made in Korea. Quantum does make some cheap crap reels and some good ones just like anyone else. And even if all the brands you named were made in the same factory, what matters is the specs the reels are made to. You can make a POS under the same roof you make a high end reel.

For the OP I have 6 of the Smokes and really like them. Have had no problems. They feel like a good sturdy reel and are smooth.

Yes, the Quantum bashing starts again. The OP asked which is the best reel Quantum makes.  Not where they are made, why you prefer Shimano, Diawa, Lews, etc.   I'm stoked most like the Customer service at Diawa and Shimano.  They should be good at is as much as they get used where I have yet to have ANY Quantum reel I fish in the last 4 years ever give me an issue.  Wish I could say the same thing about the other two companies my fishing buddies use.  But they are loyal and tell me how great their reels are which is great....when they aren't in the shop.  Again, if the OP has a serious question about a Quantum reel, I have no issues giving an honest answer as someone that fishes A LOT of Quantum reels proudly.

I know I read on this thread that Shimano Curado was junk..Now I'll say this. Stop it. Your spreading lies. You don't like Shimano & that's fine. But stop spreading untrue statements..

Besides.. This thread is concerning Quantum Reels.

I have an 100 EXO PT.  It's great, I call it an "experienced fisherman's reel".  Definitely not as forgiving as say other brands with having the ceramic bearings, but once you figure how to fish it, they are great! Awesome Ergonomics!

Are you thinking about getting a Quantum?

It's fine for the shimano sheep to call lews junk though on this forum.
