Vlad Val Yevdash Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I want to purchase a versatile casting rod for bass fishing. Like I want to use it for swimbaits, spinnerbaits, some jigs, chatter baits, stuff like that. Quote
Super User BassinLou Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 Champion 734. Fits that bill for me. 2 Quote
Slade House Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 The extreme mission or either of the 711 rods (megabass) 1 Quote
Josh Smith Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I use a Cherrywood HD MH for those, especially jigs and square bills. (I have a dedicated rod and reel for deeper cranking. It uses mono and the reel is 21 to 23 or so IPT.) The Cherrywood, being part fiberglass, imparts an action I really like on the jigs. I use IM8 Daiwa rods, 6'6" and 7', for most other things save deep cranking. Regards, Josh Quote
hatrix Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 It would probably be a 7'2" MH/XF Crucial. It is a excellent rod and I have used it for everything. I don't know if they still make that rod in the cork grips or how it compares to the old eva ones. But if you can find a older one its a good buy. Quote
adam lancia Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Depends on your budget really... A 7' true MH fast action rod would be very versatile. When I say a true MH, I mean that an Abu Garcia Veritas fished about a half power more compared to the Kistler Helium II LTX and Fenwick Aetos MH's that I have. Quote
5fishlimit Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I think most people start with a MH/F as their first casting rod, and then start to specialize by techniques afterwards. That's what I did, and see others here do, too. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 Any 7' Medium Heavy Fast Action (1/4-1oz) Quote
Vlad Val Yevdash Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 I think I'm going to buy the 7 foot medium heavy, fast action g loomis e6x 843c mbr. Quote
clh121787 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I think I'm going to buy the 7 foot medium heavy, fast action g loomis e6x 843c mbr. that was gonna be my next choice. I have that rod in e6x and imx and it's great Quote
DTack Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 7 foot to 7 foot 3, generic medium heavy or 4 power rod. My choice is a Dobyns 734c in the Champion or Fury series. 1 Quote
Big C Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I have a ML Carrot Stix, it can handle just about everything; jigs, cranks, small swimbaits, spinner baits, frogs, buzz baits, ect. It sounds like you might want something a little heavier than a ML so I suggest a 7' Carrot Stix Wild Wild Orange Casting Rod. Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 Dobyns 734/735 blanked rods Phenix 714/715 Lamiglas 734/735 St. Croix Mf 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 7' medium/fast or mh/fast, depending on the manu. Quote
Vlad Val Yevdash Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 Abu garcia-Veritas casting rod, micro guide, medium heavy what do you guys think of this rod? Quote
shaggydog Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 7' legend elite mhf. Followed closely by 6"10" *** mf. I really like that 6'10" fo some reason. 6'6" avid mf does EVERYTHING well, mine is used exclusively for lipless cranks. Quote
k3bass Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 7' mh power mf action falcon bucoo! The most versatile and sensitive rod you will find for a hundred bucks. Quote
bass1980 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 By far the most versatile rod I've used and currently own is the Megabass X7 Extreme Mission. The only thing is its a 7'5 rod so it's a tad tip heavy. Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 7, 2015 Super User Posted November 7, 2015 My favorite is my 6' 9" MH/F Veritas with a 7.3:1 *** sitting on it. Light, sensitive, and casts like a dream. I like Veritas rods enough that I have 3 flavors: 6'6" M/F 2-piece, the above mentioned, and a 7' M/M. Quote
Silas Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Megabass Extreme Mission! Or Black Elseil X4 Or XX Diablo Spec R Whatever I want to throw, those 3 on deck will do it. As to do it all reels to go with them: TDZ 105 Shimano 15 Conquest 100 HG Steez 100. Or 103HA Quote
WPCfishing Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Rather than be specific I'll offer you a couple of choices. For about $80.00 If you can find a Team Daiwa rod I think you will be happy with it. The new Tatula XT is also a very nice rod to consider at $100.00. At a higher price point you may want to look at an Abu Garcia IKE power rod for $149.00. I have two Team Daiwa rods and an IKE rod. I'm very happy with all of them. Quote
Vlad Val Yevdash Posted November 7, 2015 Author Posted November 7, 2015 MBC70MHF Spinnerbait 7' MH Fast 1 12 - 20 3/8 - 1 4.6 3 what do you think of this rod it's a mojo bass st croix rod Quote
Cyacnba Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I use the Abu Garcia Veritas (1st gen) 6'9" MH/F. It's a 2-piece rod, so I have no issues carrying on the bus or subway. I use it for everything: jigs, spinnerbaits, frogs, a few swimbaits. It feels a little stiff, but it's pretty sensitive from my experience. You can get a new one for like $45 online now Quote
