"The Classic Bracket will be streamed live on Bassmaster.com and will feature — for the first time ever in Bassmaster competition — catch-weigh-release scoring. That is, competitors will have their catches weighed instantly on the water by judges, and the bass will be released back into the water at the spots where they were caught. Only the heaviest five bass per angler will be counted."

My first impressions is "It's About Time".

This is all Great News and a Real Step Forward for B.A.S.S.

I think this is the Rejuvenation that B.A.S.S. has been looking & hoping for a long, long time and is very much needed.

As a fan, I am Really excited & looking forward to this and what is to come in the future.

Thank you B.A.S.S.

Good move. Might change my opinion of tournaments.

Just to be clear this is for the 8 angler bassmaster classic playoff in middle of season. Not for every tournament.

Excellent news! Would love to see it just like MLF, but with

a larger field. Guess have to see if that would work.

But bout time for the change!!

Pretty cool. Be interesting to see if and how it grows from there.

It would be hard to argue that its not easier on the fish and also better for the image of tournament fishing. I would love if there was a way to make it work in all tournaments. I've always thought my livewells would work well for storage.

So the top 8 finishers in the 7th event at Cayuga will fish this event and have a chance to make the Classic.  That seems really random.

I look forward to the day when B.A.S.S. extends this idea to all of its tournaments.

It is.  Anyone on the bubble will have to be hot at Cayuga.

Cayuga has pretty good wireless coverage - perhaps that's a reason?

I haven't enjoyed a weigh in since Fish Fishburne anyway!

The classic playoff is on niagara river

I wish they would use this format for the Elite Event in August 2016 on the Potomac River. They are going to kill a lot of bass on that water.

I'm curious if they will be allowed to record 2 catches of a fish the exact same weight? Same fish or not....

I wouldn't get too excited, they picked this event since it will only have 8 anglers...It's a whole different thing when you need to outfit 100+ boats with the stuff necessary to do this.  Not to mention the impact it would have on the weigh in event and crowd for the local host city....Which is a big deal for both BASS and the host.  I enjoy MLF, but I also realize it's a made-for-TV product.  I don't think I'd like it if the major tours adopted that format for all regular events.

There's been 100+ boat tournaments on the river every year for decades now, I wouldn't worry too much about it.  I think the smaller local tournaments do more harm honestly, the local anglers are more likely to not have brand new and properly functioning livewells.  The volume of local events is much more overall too, there are multiple tournaments on the river nearly every single weekend from about March through October.  Just think of the BASS event as a stocking program for Mattawoman Creek  ;).

I don't like it. I hope it doesn't stick. I don't much care what the "image" of tournament fishing is to those who don't love the sport and it's traditions and neither should BASS. Where is this coming from?   Put this on the list with Delta issue, the sports teams having to change their names, college mascots being changed along with college team names and the list goes on and on and on. I'll say no more, I don't want warning points again. ;)

Woo! BASS is holding an event out of Buffalo :D

The catch-weigh-release scoring is the wave of the future. In May, NY BASS Nation will be having a fundraiser tournament on Lake Erie using MLF style scales as well.

I am with Logan S on this one.  A lot of money is drawn from those weight in events to the local hosts.

Probably due to the new political climate in the nation.  BASS LIVES MATTER!

EXCEPT Clear Lake and The Sac. Delta.  There it's "Rough Fish Matter".

This is a neat concept, glad to see the fish not being pulled far away from where they were caught.  I do see the point mentioned of the same fish being caught twice, either by the same angler or two different anglers.  What if multiple anglers catch the same big bedding female?
