John G Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I just got a 2 piece Shimano Cardiff Trout rod and I am curious if I should try to push the top part any farther in. It does not appear to want to go any farther in but the way it is now, the rod is a little bit longer than it's advertised length of 1.93 meters (6' 3.984") Quote
IAY Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Not every single one of them goes all the way I think... I have seen those in action, and I am pretty sure they had that gap. I kind of want to order one of these whippy rods for BFS, so I can cast light plugs/spoons better for Trout around my area. Edit. Here is a video of it, time stamped when you can get clear view of the rod connection. https://youtu.be/wVv8QOAQJI8?t=183 1 Quote
thehooligan Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 John, don't force them together too much. Majorcraft does the same 2 piece design. There's supposed to be a gap. 1 Quote

I too have looked at the Shimano Cardiff Trout videos on YouTube and Shimano has quite the selection of Trout Rods, both casting and spinning. This rod is the Shimano Cardiff AX B64L-F. I bought it from BassJP for $202.53 shipped. This is a very nice rod with a very soft tip and the rod itself appears to have some backbone. Paired with a Conquest 50/w Avail spool and 4# Yo Zuri Hybrid, it should launch tiny crankbaits. If you want a shorter rod, they make the Cardiff NX Series. I want the Cardiff NX B-50UL. A few more pics...... 2 Quote

5fishlimit Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I had a similar concern with a 2 pc Volkey I got, but after a few casts my concerns disappeared. You got yourself a nice rod. Now get the plastic wrapping off the handle, and get it out on the water! 1 Quote
Super User Solution S Hovanec Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Solution Posted November 6, 2015 They are designed like that to allow for wear. If it fit flush, it would eventually get too loose to stay together. It's an old school design, but still effective. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 I have a Diawa Ardito travel rod. There is a gap between pieces which is part of the design, according to Diawa's literature. Perhaps a similar design? 1 Quote
John G Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 This what BassJP said in their reply to my email..... Yes,it's the way to joint, named "Spigot Joint". Don't put too much and please never cut to adjust them... I hope you enjoy your new rod and have many good catch with it! Quote
GoCougs14 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Anyone noticed a difference in sensativity between a 1 or 2 piece rod? Quote
5fishlimit Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Anyone noticed a difference in sensativity between a 1 or 2 piece rod? While I have not fished the same line of rods with a 1 pc vs a 2 pc I don't believe there is a noticeable difference if the material used for the blank is of a good quality. I may be wrong, but the 2 pc I just got is plenty sensitive compared to other 1 pc rods I own. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted November 9, 2015 Posted November 9, 2015 Haha, when I bought my first ever nice two piece rod, it was a St Croix Mojo Surf. The fit was like that as well where it wasn't flush with a big space at the join and I thought i had picked up mismatched pieces. I took it back to the tackle shop and they told me that's how it's designed. Felt like such a noob. Quote
