Super User A-Jay Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Personnaly - I'm not a fan. I believe Competition is good and Monopolies are bad. A-Jay 12 Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Boo. That is all. 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Yeah, not really a fan of this. Prefer competition, as well. 2 Quote
thebillsman Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 That's sad. My cabelas is so much nicer than my BPS. 3 Quote
Turkey sandwich Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I don't like it. Taking away competition is bad. Also, from my experience, Cabelas have been much, much nicer stores. 1 Quote
Super User slonezp Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 I have a Cabelas 10 minutes away and 2 BPS's within an hours drive. I don't shop a whole lot at either store. Just for fishing licenses, rods, and last minute fishing/boating "emergencies". Seems both business models cater to the average fishermen and women, and all around outdoor enthusiasts of which, I am not. Sick minded individuals, like myself, prefer to shop online and buy in bulk. Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 I don't know who the mastermind is behind Tackle Warehouse, but he should be the one buying out Cabelas, not BPS. 7 Quote

Buying online saves ALOT of cash. 2 Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 Selfishly, I don't like it because I'd have to pay sales tax on anything I get from Cabelas online (if a store or distribution center for the company resides in CA we have to pay sales tax). The BPS I've been to (Manteca, Rancho, Vegas) were all nicer than the only Cabelas I've been in (Reno), but I've heard some of the stores you guys have in the Midwest and down south are much nicer than what we have out here. Ski213 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 My initial thought is that I don't like this. I don't like anything that reminds me of Walmart. This does. I don't have anything against BPS though. I've spent plenty of money with them. Cabelas doesn't have to sell. If they do its a business decision and its all about money. Nothing else. It's big business. I do hate to see companies that started as a dream absorbed by another's dream but it is what is. Having said that everybody should keep in mind that BPS didn't start huge. It was a business that was grown from relatively little. This is one of the few places on earth that this is even possible. That's not all bad as I see it. I prefer buying at smaller establishments simply because around me they are more involved locally and additionally they carry what works locally. May be more expensive but its a pretty minimal difference really. I also like the smaller Internet sellers cause even though its not local, it seems more personal. BPS has never told me whats hot at the next tournament spot. That counts for something in my opinion. Quote
Super User tomustang Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 If cabs was smart they would buy Yamaha and academy sports, so they can get back in the game with boats/motors/wheeled vehicles and with housebrand items like academy tackle, but they wont, they'll just hire 400 more guys in the store to harass you to get their credit card in every aisle 1 Quote
Super User HoosierHawgs Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 I like BPS but I hate the idea. Reason being is when Dick's bought Galyan's. That was enough to put a bad taste in my mouth when it comes businesses acquiring other business 1 Quote
Josh Smith Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I think it would help get one or the other within reasonable driving distance from me. Otherwise, too Walmart-ish, so I'm a bit torn. Josh Quote
jbw252 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I'm not in favor of this. I doubt it'll happen anyway. It takes a lot of swagger to pull off big buyouts like that. Quote
Scarborough817 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 not a huge fan of this. My Cabela's had a selection of smaller brands that my BPS doesn't carry they also have a lot more swimbaits than BPS does. Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 You know....you can save some gas and buy your license online. Agree on all other comments. I rarely go to either now. Buying online saves ALOT of cash. If you do that here, the state charges you a $3 fee for the "convenience" of buying it online. But I pay it because I value my time more than a few bucks. Plus, you're guaranteed not to have to drive, waste gas, then learn the computers are down and you can't buy one anyway. 2 Quote
scbassin Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 This is probley why BPS has put the store on hold that they were going to build in North Charleston SC. Cabela's has plans to build one just up the road in Summerville. I don't buy from either one anymore for we have a excellent tackle shop at the military rec area at short stay in Moncks Corner SC. & if they don't have it T/W does. I am not so sure it will hurt the avid much as my guess is that they are aware of all the on line stores I am also surprised that BPS is even looking at this unless it's a real bargain The economy is not as good as the gov. would like you to believe just look at the wages. Prices are going up but wages not so much & if this keeps happening people will have to cut back spending & non essential things go first. & I am sure that is looked at. . . Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted November 6, 2015 Super User Posted November 6, 2015 meh, rarely shop at either anyways (usually with a gift card someone gives me or something) prefer DSG for the brick and mortar and do most shopping online.... Quote

Evan K Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I hope this never goes through. Cabela's has its own style and history and I like the store/company. Quote
WPCfishing Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 Personnaly - I'm not a fan. I believe Competition is good and Monopolies are bad. A-Jay I completely agree A Jay. It would be great if we all had a solid bass fishermen tackle shop within 100 miles of us. I say that because there isn't much at BP or Cabela's near me that I'm interested in buying. Is Cabela's losing money? Why are they considering selling out? Quote
Big C Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 I don't really have a dog in this fight. I rarely buy fishing related items from Bass pro. I think they are better for killing time on rainey days, coffee mugs, and Red Head Camo Mocs. TW is the bee's knees. 1 Quote
dam0007 Posted November 7, 2015 Posted November 7, 2015 They're opening the first BPS here in CT and I would rather drive 1.5hours to Cabelas than spend a $0.01 in BPS. As far as I'm concerned BPS can go belly up for their anti-2A stance locally. Quote
