imagine29028 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Yes, a lot of us will get Gift Cards and drool over the deals on Tackle Warehouse and probably BPS too. But one thing to think about to save some mooola. FISHING FLEA MARKETS Maybe its just around me in Maryland, but almost every weekend in Jan & Feb there is a fishing flea market in the area, This is a great way to get deals on both tackle and rods and such. Maybe you wanted to try a new technique or needed another rod, Flea Markets are great places to pick up stuff cheap. Remember one man's trash is another man's treasure. Lots of places I go, you get both used and brand new stuff. Sometimes there are even local tackle makers who sell their products as a way to get their name out there. Last year winter I said I wanted to really try/concentrate on finesse fishing/drop shotting. I picked up a 2 piece Med Light Okuma Rod, Daiwa Reel pre spooled with new 8lb test Berkley line as a package deal for $40. Is it a St Croix or G Loomis? Nope...but then again, I'm not dumping that kind of money into something, I'm just trying out. Lots of places/tables if you buy enough of their stuff they'll give you a discount (5 for the price of 4) 1 Quote
Jtrout Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Im in Maryland where are these fishing flea markets?! Quote
papajoe222 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 It'd be great to have one around here. I've a bunch of gear I could possibly unload and maybe pick up a deal as a bonus. Quote

Not exactly across the street from you, but there has been a fishing flea market at Rolling Meadows High School every year for the last 16 years. It's held around the first Saturday in March. 1 Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 None of those around here. I spend the winter buying things online and then usually drop a few hundred at the sportsman expo where you can get some really cool custom home made deals at good prices. everything from hand poured plastics to jigs. It is a good way for me to stock up for the upcoming season. 1 Quote
Missourifishin Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 That sounds awesome. I have never heard of one around here. Quote

I spend my winter (aside from ice fishing and snowmobiling) making jigs and worms. I've been melting down all my stuff that I'll never use into things I will. Quote

Super User Choporoz Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Fishing flea markets are fun, but with respect to the OP, I don't see them as a 'good way to save money on tackle' You've heard the old joke, "A man will pay $2 for a $1 item he needs......A woman will pay $1 for a $2 item that she doesn't need but it's on sale.".....well, fishing flea markets turn us into the latter 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Start one. I've got enough stuff I probably could haha. Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Some of the bigger bass clubs will have these as well. Basically a garage sale type of thing with tables setup. It allows guys to move gear in the off season and others to pick up things for a good price. If you don't have a flea market in your area we have one online here at BR and many other places. Quote

imagine29028 Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 This is the site I found last year...for the Mid Atlantic. Some are Saltwater, Hunting etc. http://www.scottsbt.com/misc/fleamkts.htm#top Most of the time though they have decent food (sometimes fresh Pit Beef) and the money at the door helps support the club or charity. Hell youre also getting out of the house when its butt ass cold and you have nothing better to do. Quote

From 1986 until 2004 we lived in Little Egg Harbor, literally right around the corner from Scotts Bait and Tackle. Really miss that store, bought lots o tackle and some Black Powder stuff also. Very fine folks, they actually got me started fishing for catfish. Little Egg is one of the best places on the planet for spring/fall stripers. But I'm not complaining, NE PA is a great place to raise a family. Quote
