j2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I recently went to a left handed bait casting reel reel, because I'm right handed and the "cast, switch hands, reel," was making less and less sense to me. However, I am used to cranking my spinning set ups and they have a bigger handles (shimano 2500/3000), so my knuckles hit the second handle knob when cranking the tatula bait caster. Anyone have suggestions on a handlebar length that I should try out? i saw the hedgehog ones, pretty sweet but $$$! Any advise is appreciated! Thanks Quote

John G Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Adjust how you hold the knobs. X2 or buy a longer handle. Quote
Hogsticker Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 I believe the handle on the tat is 90 mm, so if that's busting knuckles you must have some man paws. Tackle Trap sales the 100 mm Steez handle I think. Avail also has some that length. You should be able to find some 100 carbon handles on flea Bay for 50 60 bucks. 1 Quote
Super User webertime Posted November 4, 2015 Super User Posted November 4, 2015 100mm Handles from the LEXA 300 (dual paddle) are ~$25. Just swap your knobs and hardware. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted November 4, 2015 Super User Posted November 4, 2015 Tatula 200hd has a stock 100mm handle also. My suggestion of changing how you hold it would be the first thing I'd change. It's free and from how you said you're hitting your knuckles it sounds like the problem. A 100mm handle is 5mm longer from center to the knob post. I don't think that's enough to stop you from hitting your hand. It sounds like you are trying to reel like you'd be turning a crank on something. 1 Quote
21farms Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 just put one of these bad boys on it. 100mm daiwa replacement handle. $50. 1 Quote
j2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 Thanks for the advise guys! Rippinlips, It's not like I can't reel without hitting my huge gorilla hands, i switch from spinning to casting a lot in a day, and I just want everything to feel a little more uniform. I have adjusted the way I reel to compensate for the smaller handle....also, I have a winter ahead of me here and can use that time upgrading my gear Quote

Just remember that you're only adding 5mm in each direction. Yes, you will be able to tell its longer than the stock handle, but it's not a huge difference. I have a 100mm carbon handle for Daiwas that I'd sell you if you're interested. I bought it to try out but 90mm is my sweet spot. Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Hawg Tech has the 102mm and their Winn knobs are great for big hands. I have a couple of the 102's and they are long! Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted November 5, 2015 Super User Posted November 5, 2015 Coming from someone else with big hands, adjust how you reel both, and it will no longer be an issue. Quote
hatrix Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Or just maybe take off one of the knobs? The issue is your knuckles hit the other knob? Quote

21farms Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Which handle is this Norm? Thx mark, they're daiwa 100mm custom accessory handles. here's the link: http://daiwa.com/Accessory/custom_handles.aspx they also come in blue and also in a power configuration with only one knob. tackledirect among others sell it. to the OP: lew's sells a 95mm accessory power handle that will also fit on daiwa reels. it too has the huge, round knobs but it is $10 less. TW carries it. 1 Quote
