My local dealer has one of these left at 40% off.  12 to 20 lb line and lure wt 1/4 to 1 oz.

I'm thinking carolina rigs, swimbaits, and a jig/worm rod.  I currently have a 6'8" MH Fast jig/worm rod that's great for jerkbaits and i'm thinking this rod  will sling swimbaits, jigs and worms a bit farther due to the length.

Thoughts?

Grab it.  :teeth:  Pretty sure that is the rod Dan (smalljaw67) was telling me about last year.  He likes it so well he will re-tie rather than pick up a different rod that is already set up.  I personally think the HMG, Smallmouth and Aetos are all excellent buys for the $$$$.  The Aetos is also one of the best (if not the best) looking rods I own.  Let me know if you don't want it.  I'll buy it at that price.

I have the exact same rod, and have fished it for at least a year now.  Its a nice rod for sure, very comfortable, and I like the grips.  The grip at your palm is a rubberized cork, and it seems to grip really good, almost tacky, even when you have wet hands.  I like the feel of the blank, its nice and firm.  Its not a broomstick, as it has a little tip, but it has a lot of backbone for sure.  I have used mine mostly for heavier tx rigs, and 1/4 to 3/4 oz jigs, and it has been good to me.  I have also used it for frog duty, and it horsed them out like magic.  I managed to break the tip about 3 inches down on mine, but it was my fault, high sticking a big bass fishing from the bank.  I have repaired it, and still has not let me down or noticed a difference in performance.  Worth a shot in my opinion, especially around the 100 dollar mark, it WONT be beat!

I have the exact rod, it is strange because it is heavier than other MH rods, I'd venture to say it is close to a heavy power. For myself, I use it as a dedicated pitching stick but I found it to be awesome for swim jigs and I can throw frogs with it in heavy grass, not complete slop but close. The reason I like it for pitching is because it is stiff, a 1/2oz jig loads it just enough that getting a good pitch for distance and accuracy is almost effortless and the sensitivity is just remarkable for a rod at that price point. Even though it is my pitching stick, I still had to find other uses as it is too nice to put down when I'm using it, but to be honest, the thing slings swim jigs great, it will throw a Senko with no problem and I also use it for hollow body swim baits when I'm throwing them on a 1/2oz to 3/4oz jig head, it really does a lot of things well but all of those things are heavy baits, I won't throw Northern style swim jigs with it, only ones with a heavier hook and the same for the Senko, it is when I use them in nasty cover, that is when I like to use this rod because it has a ton of power. A great choice based on what you want it for.

I have a 7' MH Aetos with a Zillion J-Dream on it and it's one of my nicest feeling rigs, I use it for spinnerbaits primarily. I had a TD-Z on it too and that balanced nicely as well. The TD-Z balanced a little more tip down than the J-Dream, but not by much.
